About the Department

The Human Disease & Immune Discovery core facility at the University of Chicago is a newly established research facility located in the Knapp Center for Biomedical Discovery (KCBD). The mission of the facility is to facilitate human based research and apply multi-parameter and single cell resolution techniques to answer both basic and translational scientific questions using newest generation flow cytometry and microscopy instruments. We offer scientific consultation tailored to each project, assistance with sample preparation, acquisition and data analysis, and education to help researchers design, perform, and interpret complex biological data. We aim to support both the University of Chicago research community and beyond.

Job Summary

The job performs routine assignments related to scientific research projects. Ensures compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates. Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures. Writes articles, reports and manuscripts. Assists in drafting presentations on research findings. The successful candidate will work in the Human Disease & Immune Discovery core facility at the University of Chicago. The technician will serve a critical role by operating the Symphony S6 cell sorter and maintaining other laboratory instruments, assisting in samples preparation, and providing assistance with ongoing scientific projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide cell sorting services, help to design experimental approaches utilizing flow cytometry based cell sorting technique and integration with other analytical platforms.
  • Provide assistance with project specific discovery workflow using flow cytometry as a primary technique (from sample preparation do data analysis).
  • Participates in scientific discussions and brainstorming regarding experimental design, and new technological development and innovation around various research themes using single cell resolution techniques.
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor\'s degree in biology, chemistry or field of study related to the research of the laboratory.

Experience:

  • Experience working in a research laboratory or core facility.
  • Experience with flow cytometry techniques.
  • Experience with flow cytometry based cell sorting techniques strongly preferred.
