TAD PGS, Inc. Lead ITS Engineer in Chicago, Illinois

We have an outstanding career opportunity for a Lead ITS Engineer to join a leading Company located in theChicago, IL surrounding area.

Salary: 102,612 -$113,220

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of duties related to the traffic signal network and intelligent transportation systems assets for the department. Responsibilities include planning, design, construction, operations, and asset management of traffic signals and ITS assets, such as advanced traffic management systems, fiberoptic and cellular networks, dynamic roadside devices, dedicated short-range communication roadside units, traffic video cameras, connected and autonomous vehicles, transit signal priority, big data hardware/software, signal coordination and timing studies, and automated traffic signal performance measures.

  • Assist with technical reviews and coordination for permits and projects, represent the department in outreach efforts with other agencies and the public, and conduct site field visits as needed.

  • Conduct field surveys to collect data on traffic signal operations, traffic volumes, traffic speeds, and existing traffic signal and ITS infrastructure.

  • Conduct field surveys to oversee construction and/or maintenance of traffic signals and/or ITS assets.

  • Develop and modify standards, specifications, and policies pertaining to the traffic signal network and ITS assets.

  • Confer with contractors on plan changes and contract modifications for issues that arise during construction of traffic signals and ITS assets.

  • Collaborate with staff pertaining to operations of the traffic signal system and ITS assets.

  • Work collaboratively with other divisions within the department to advance technical reviews and other tasks associated with traffic signal network and ITS assets, including plans, specifications, and estimates for Phase I studies, Phase II projects.

  • Coordinate with external agencies to ensure projects, permits, and initiatives meet all applicable local, state, and federal requirements.

  • Develop grant applications for federal, state, and local funding to advance the goals.

  • Manage and prepare procurement documents, participate on professional service selection committees, negotiate contracts/scope/tasks/hours, review deliverables.

  • Provide financial oversight of all assigned tasks, projects, and contracts, including the preparation of internal financial control documents, review and processing of invoices received from external vendors, and annual budgeting.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Basic Hiring Criteria:

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, standards, and specifications pertaining to the planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and asset management of traffic signals and intelligent transportation systems.

  • Ability to coordinate and manage projects and professional services support contracts with outside agencies, consulting firms, and contractors, and to maintain constructive professional relationships.

  • Ability to record information accurately and convey it in a coherent manner and ability to communicate both verbally and in written form as it relates to traffic signals and intelligent transportation systems assets.

  • Knowledge of advanced skills in an area of expertise, to perform tasks with a high degree of proficiency.

  • Ability to provide senior-level expertise to employees, serve as a reliable resource for other employees in an area of expertise , and provide process and technical guidance.

  • Ability to demonstrate professional and independent judgment in the interpretation, application, and enforcement of ITS engineering laws, regulations, and policies with minimum training and/or supervision.

  • Ability to provide working technical knowledge to solve problems, conduct tests, assess data, and operate specialized equipment pertaining to intelligent transportation systems, including, but not limited to:

  • advanced traffic management systems, fiberoptic and cellular networks, dynamic roadside devices, dedicated short-range communication roadside units, traffic video cameras, connected and autonomous vehicles, transit signal priority, big data hardware/software, signal coordination and timing studies, and automated traffic signal performance measures.

  • Ability to travel to various work assignments throughout Cook County.

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, MicroStation, traffic modeling software, geographic information system software, centralized traffic system software, and/or other ITS-related software.
