The University of Chicago\'s Department of Radiology, in conjunction with the Office of Shared Research Facilities (OSRF), is searching for a research faculty at any rank to be the Director of the Integrated Small Animal Imaging Research Resource (iSAIRR), a shared core facility within the OSRF.
The appointee will oversee the management and operation of the iSAIRR. The appointee will participate in animal imaging and related experiments using various imaging modalities, mentor staff, train users and students in the use of the facility and contribute to shared instrumentation grants for upgrading and expanding the facility\'s capabilities. The appointee will also lead the efforts to expand iSAIRR\'s operations and services, including transitioning it to a broader preclinical imaging core facility.
The current iSAIRR (https://voices.uchicago.edu/isairr/) consists of Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy (MRIS), Optical Imaging (OI, including both bioluminescence and fluorescence), Quantitative Tomography Imaging (QTI, including PET, SPECT and CT), autoradiography (AR), ultrasound (US) imaging, Imaging Chemistry (IC), and services for image reconstruction, processing, and analysis. Presently, iSAIRR is primarily used for in vivo rodent imaging and ex vivo specimen imaging; a priority for the newly-appointed director will be to develop capabilities for imaging of large animals as well as providing support to advancing co-clinical imaging in association with clinical research.
The appointee will work with a very diverse group of researchers across the University to assist them with integration of different animal imaging modalities and technologies into their research studies, enabling and facilitating their research agenda. The appointee will have the opportunity to develop collaborative research with other faculty members and to be involved in teaching relevant courses, as well as participating in other related scholarly activities. There will also be opportunities for the appointee to apply for internal or external funding for independent research and/or technology development in the field of animal imaging, and to publish lead or senior author research papers. We especially welcome applicants with previous experience in the operation and/or management of animal imaging laboratories or facilities, particularly those in a preclinical and/or co-clinical setting. Previous publication record and contributions to grants will be considered.
Qualified applicants must have: 1) a doctoral degree or equivalent in physical or biological sciences, or related fields; 2) completed postdoctoral training.
