Insight Global Construction Program Director in Chicago, Illinois

Job Description

We are seeking a Program Director -- CIP Execution and Construction Management with proven leadership qualities and strong communication skills to lead a team of construction professionals in the execution of a robust public safety capital improvement program. Projects include new and renovated courthouses and courtrooms, state's attorney offices, public defender offices, mental health facilities, adult detention facilities, juvenile detention centers, and the medical examiner's office.

The primary duties of the Project Director will focus on construction management leadership, budgetary estimating, contract negotiation, master planning and scheduling, cost management and forecasting, client and end-user relations, coordination with the Director of Design Management, site logistics, planning, and change management.

This position reports to the Project Executive. The successful candidate will collaborate with other program directors, senior managers, estimators, schedulers and other construction professionals across the team as well third-party construction and engineering firms. The program director is responsible for on-site project coordination and management, including the ability to:

  • Act in an advisory role assisting the client with initiating and setting goals for programs based on the strategic objectives.

  • Mentor, coach, oversee and manage a team of construction project managers that are responsible for their own group of individual projects.

Assist the client in planning programs from start to finish, including identifying processes, deadlines, costs, and milestones.

  • Collaborate in program development, project, and construction management efforts in accordance with the client's program policies and procedures.

  • Collaborate in developing a program implementation plan and overall schedule that reflects the program priorities.

  • Identify construction risks and create risk mitigation plans.

  • Develop recommended actions and assist in resolving disputes relative to construction and changed conditions.

  • Provide management of program logistics, organization, safety, and manpower utilization.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure program and project success.

  • Anticipate and manage issues by bringing authority to the team and leverage lessons learned from experience.

  • Ensure contractor, architect, and engineer will adhere to contractual requirements in areas of safety, performance, project staff, and equipment.

Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture is required.

  • 15+ years of recent experience providing project and program management services on multiple large justice and detention facility projects, working simultaneously, in a portfolio in excess of $300 million.

* Prior experience managing up to 6 projects with a portfolio of 50+ projects

  • A strong technical and practical background in justice, jail, and/or detention facility construction projects.

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to work well in a team environment is critical.

  • Knowledge and application of construction estimating, cost, project controls/scheduling, documentation, engineering/construction principles, techniques, materials, applications, and practices.

* Primavera P6, Procore, ACC Build, Microsoft, SharePoint

  • Experience in alternative project delivery methods including Job Order Contracting (JOC), Blanket Contracts, Design-Build and Progressive Design-Build. PMP or CCM certification preferred.
