Summary: The Food Service Worker – Joe’s Java position is responsible for a variety of activities. Serving of customers, running cash register, food preparation, food/coffee ordering.

Qualifications: Must possess the ability to read and write, basic math skills are helpful. Some prior food service experience is preferred.

Essential Functions;

  • Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participates in their resolution.

  • Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea/Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.

  • Maintains knowledge to perform the duties of the job. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.

  • Demonstrates self-directed learning.

  • Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea/Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.

  • Identifies and assists in resolution of problems related to safety, sanitation and maintenance of the environment.

  • Practices effective communication in all interactions (patient, visitor, co-worker, etc.)

  • Promotes a positive work environment by demonstrating teamwork.

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to place a food order and coffee order.

  • Month end inventory of supplies on hand.

  • Daily equipment temps.

  • Put away delivery on deliver days.

  • Wait on customers. Make specialty coffee

  • Run cash register and handle cash.

  • Food prep - Baking, assemble salads, sandwiches, etc

  • Completes shift end cleaning assignments, checks out with supervisor

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, write and perform math calculations

  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time – up to 100% of the work day.

  • Ability to lift and push up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 50% of work time.

  • Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with staff and other department personnel and patients.
