Tennessee State Job Bank Welder (Stick) - Guild TN in Chattanooga, Tennessee

  • Perform Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)(stick welding) on various ship components, including structural and pipe welding.
  • Weld and fabricate metal parts according to blueprints, specifications, and work orders.
  • Inspect and test welds for quality, durability, and compliance with safety standards.
  • Operate welding and cutting equipment such as torches, grinders, and plasma cutters.
  • Work in confined spaces, heights, and other challenging environments as required in shipyard settings.
  • Follow all OSHA, shipyard safety regulations, and industry codes for welding.
  • Perform routine maintenance on welding equipment and tools.
  • Assist with fitting and positioning metal components before welding.
  • Collaborate with other welders, fabricators, and supervisors to meet production goals.

Qualifications:

  • Certification in Stick Welding (SMAW) preferred (AWS or equivalent).
  • 2+ years of experience in stick welding, preferably in a shipyard or marine environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols.
  • Strong knowledge of metal properties and welding techniques.
  • Experience with structural welding and pipe welding (preferred).
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including lifting up to 50 lbs., standing for extended periods, and working in confined spaces.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds.
  • Knowledge of maritime industry safety standards and welding codes.
  • Willingness to work overtime and flexible shifts as needed.
