Tennessee State Job Bank Welder (Stick) - Guild TN in Chattanooga, Tennessee
- Perform Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)(stick welding) on various ship components, including structural and pipe welding.
- Weld and fabricate metal parts according to blueprints, specifications, and work orders.
- Inspect and test welds for quality, durability, and compliance with safety standards.
- Operate welding and cutting equipment such as torches, grinders, and plasma cutters.
- Work in confined spaces, heights, and other challenging environments as required in shipyard settings.
- Follow all OSHA, shipyard safety regulations, and industry codes for welding.
- Perform routine maintenance on welding equipment and tools.
- Assist with fitting and positioning metal components before welding.
- Collaborate with other welders, fabricators, and supervisors to meet production goals.
Qualifications:
- Certification in Stick Welding (SMAW) preferred (AWS or equivalent).
- 2+ years of experience in stick welding, preferably in a shipyard or marine environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols.
- Strong knowledge of metal properties and welding techniques.
- Experience with structural welding and pipe welding (preferred).
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including lifting up to 50 lbs., standing for extended periods, and working in confined spaces.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds.
- Knowledge of maritime industry safety standards and welding codes.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible shifts as needed.
