General Summary:

As Director, Financial Wellbeing programs, you will have operational responsibility for the ongoing review of design, implementation and management of the Unum financial wellbeing programs. This role is part of the broader HR Global Total Rewards team and must have a passion for delivering programs and resources that will support Unum employees’ overall wellbeing.

This role will need to maintain a subject matter level of expertise regarding the oversight and operation of our retirement and financial wellbeing programs. Through partnership with the AVP, Global Financial Wellbeing Programs and other leaders in HR and Finance, this role is accountable for the financial integrity of the plans and ensuring our programs are competitive, sustainable and compliant.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the implementation of plan design, plan management and administration, day to day operational vendor management and oversight and governance for financial wellbeing programs

  • Accountable for regular monitoring and evaluating the performance metrics of existing programs ensuring that they function, are well utilized, competitive and cost effective and supportive of the company’s talent management and overall business strategy.

  • Performs regular external and internal studies to ensure competitiveness of the company’s programs through strategic monitoring of business conditions, legal requirements, economic environment, and competitive practices. Make specific recommendations (proactive application) to ensure that the programs remain aligned with the Company’s direction

  • Ensure that the tools and educational materials are compliant, comprehensive, and user-friendly

  • Help monitor and respond to employee feedback and issue elevation of the various plans and programs

  • Assist in preparation of budgets to insure they align with company financial objectives

  • Lead regarding responsibility in partnership with Finance and Audit in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial reporting preparation including annual tax reporting (Form 5500 and schedules)

  • Accountable for ensuring that programs maintain compliance, on both a fiduciary and operational basis

  • Accountable for an effective, collaborative working relationship with external investment, actuarial and legal vendor consultants to effectively manage the plan. Works as a team member with Finance on matters related to plan custodial banking and other operational matters related to the financial management of the company’s plans, and with ERISA counsel on matters of compliance.

  • May assist in developing reporting for the Benefit Finance Committee which includes ensuring that this Committee receives sufficient information to meet and discharge their fiduciary responsibilities for the retirement programs

  • Ensure effective administration of plans, employee satisfaction and service, effective reporting, and compliance with plan operational requirements

  • May perform other duties as assigned

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in financial wellbeing program operations, plan management and compliance

  • Working knowledge of regulations and issues impacting wellbeing programs including those developed under ERISA, IRS, HIPAA, and the Department of Labor

  • Thorough knowledge of data analytics and Excel software for use in analyzing plans, evaluating payroll and data processing issues and recommending design changes to the leadership team

  • Demonstrated past success in managing data analytics from an audit, tax, or financial statement perspective

  • Experience in working and leading annual education programs in a corporate environment

  • Project management skills – ability to direct and manage multiple projects with key deliverables

  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills – ability to interpret technical/contractual language into easily understood text.

  • Ability to communicate with and influence multiple constituencies including Legal and Finance

  • Strong negotiation and persuasion skills – seasoned and mature

  • Demonstrated skill as a manager, with a broader business orientation than the technical aspects of retirement plan design

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$89,900.00-$161,800.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
