University of Virginia Research Assistant Professor, Pharmacology in Charlottesville, Virginia

The Pharmacology Department in the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Assistant Professor on the tenure ineligible Research Support track to provide research support in the Lab of Dr. Stephen Abbott. The incumbent will be expected to perform sophisticated experimental research in the areas of cardiovascular disease. In addition, the incumbent will support the teaching mission in the lab, supervising undergraduate and graduate students, and provide support of various grants in the Abbott Lab. The ideal candidate will be expected to pursue mentored opportunities to develop as an independent investigator

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree. ABD may be accepted.

  • Strong publication record in reputable scientific journals as first or senior author.

  • Preference will be given to applicants with doctoral and post-doctoral level training in pharmacology, physiology, and neuroscience.

  • Five years of direct experience in the fields of studies listed is preferred.

  • Experience in neurophysiology is required, with experience using techniques including optogenetics, chemogenetics, in vivo calcium imaging.

  • Applicants should have successfully acquired funding to support their research such as fellowships or grants.
