University of Virginia Assistant Professor of Research in Charlottesville, Virginia

The Stukenberg Lab at the University of Virginia Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics within the School of Medicine is hiring a non-tenure track Assistant Professor of research.

The assistant professor of research is expected to perform high end molecular and cellular biology experiments and also help with laboratory management in Dr. Todd Stukenberg’s laboratory https://toddstuke.wixsite.com/stukelab . The Stukenberg lab focuses on cellular mechanisms of mitosis and how these are dysregulated during cancer progression. Most of the experiments are based on in vitro biochemistry and cell biology in tissue culture cells and organoids. The work could also involve working with breast cancer models in mice and bioinformatics of breast cancer. The experiments to be performed will be tailored to the candidates experience and needs of the lab. The goal will be for the candidate to be highly independent as long as the research projects are developed in conjunction with Dr. Stukenberg. In addition, the candidate will handle sophisticated administrative and logistical tasks and train others in the lab.

Requirements for Assistant professor:

· PhD degree and additional postdoctoral training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Excellent written and oral communication skills

· Strong attention to detail

· strong problem-solving skills and be able to work independently and as part of a team

· previous research experience in either molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry or data analysis are preferred

· The selected applicant will be required to complete a background check and health assessment per University policy.

This is a restricted position and continuation will be dependent on availability of funding and satisfactory performance.
