We started with pastries handmade by Lois and Lloyd Martin inside of a garage and we have boomed into a multi-facility company where our many products are produced by machines and shipped domestically and internationally. Summary: As a member of the Martin's Family, the Safety Intern w orks with safety team members to assist in day-to-day activities of the department to ensure a safety, healthy, and incident-free work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • Assists in the investigation of incidents, prepares material, gathers evidence to determine the root cause

  • Compiles incident reports and trends the information gathered from them to determine areas of improvement

  • Prepares and arrange safety exhibits and material for display and promotional work

  • Assists in the facilitation of the employee safety committee

  • Compiles information gathered from the organization’s behavior based observation program to identify areas of improvement, determines corrective measures, assists in the implementation of the corrective measures and follow up.

  • Interviews employers and employees to obtain information about workplace incidents and work environment.

  • Develops, reviews, and updates written safety programs and trainings like Lockout/Tagout, Hazard Communication, Ladder Safety etc…

  • Trains employees on a variety of safety topics.

  • Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.

  • Provides information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.

  • Adheres to safety, food safety, and Good Manufacturing Practices regulations

    Education/Experience:

  • Actively seeking a Bachelor’s degree in Safety at an accredited institution

    Language Skills:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Computer Skills:

  • Intermediate level of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
