Robert Half Public Staff Tax Accountant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Description We are inviting applications for the role of Public Staff Tax Analyst, in the field of finance and accounting, based out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This is a contract employment opportunity offering remote work flexibility. The primary role involves analyzing tax laws, updating systems as per changes, testing the changes, and becoming a subject matter expert in a specific area, all the while maintaining strong communication with the teams and states.
Responsibilities:
• Evaluate tax laws each year, identifying changes and implementing them into the process.
• Compare updates from states with prior year data, making necessary adjustments in the system accordingly.
• Conduct rigorous testing of changes made in the system to ensure error-free implementation.
• Attend daily meetings to comprehend the team's status and requirements, and work collaboratively to distribute tasks.
• Become the subject matter expert in a specific area as assigned by the team lead.
• Maintain open communication lines with states to confirm the correctness of changes made and meet all standards.
• Use software like Mathmaster to identify and implement changes in the system.
• Ensure changes made in the system do not affect other functionalities within the software.
• Display proficiency in using Microsoft Excel and other applications simultaneously.
• Stay updated with technology, demonstrating confidence in using new software and applications.
Skills:
• Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with VBA or "If else" statements
• Experience in tax-related functions
• Competence in using multiple applications simultaneously
• Proficiency in accounting functions, auditing, compliance, and customer service
• Experience with software like CCH ProSystem Fx, CCH Sales Tax, Gosystem, and Management System. Requirements • Proficiency in CCH ProSystem Fx and CCH Sales Tax for effective tax management.
• Experience with Gosystem and Management System for efficient workflow management.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
• Ability to perform Accounting Functions accurately and efficiently.
• Auditing skills to ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.
• Experience in handling Cash Activity for maintaining accurate financial records.
• Understanding of Compliance requirements in public sector accounting.
• Strong Customer Service skills for effective communication with clients and stakeholders.
