The Computing Solutions D epartment is looking for a Program Chief Engineer for development of the A1 product line processing solution. This position is a n Associate Director of Systems Engineer ing . The Computing Solutions organization is focu s ed on the development of a product line processing solution for Avionics products and customers. Our team is responsible for the development and sustainment of state-of-the-art safety-critical integrated processing solutions .

This position is for a program chief capable of establishing the necessary strategy, approach, and implementation for av ionics products to suc c eed in a variety of civil and military environment s . Candidates for th is role will have experience in design, testing, verification, and validation for avionics (including systems engineering, hardware, embedded software, and firmware components). They will also have experience in coordinating and leading teams of engineers, identifying risk and opportunity in technical developments, meeting schedule commitments, and working in a multi-disciplinary environment.
The Program Chief Engineer is the Engineering lead responsible for CMS design and development phase activities. They are the primary technical interface to the VSL, customer, and regulatory agencies. They have primary Engineering accountability for meeting technical requirements and scope for the program or product line, including cost and schedule commitments. The Program Chief Engineer defines and maintains program plans, directs technical system-level trade studies, has design authority approval, ensures processes are adhered to by the execution team, and liaises with value stream management and other leads to ensure technical goals are achieved. The Program Chief is responsible for embracing and incorporating lessons learned, especially when they are product-specific .
Excellent communication and presentation skills are critical for this position to facilitate briefings to internal stakeholders, executive leadership , and customers. Flexibility to adapt to the needs of our diverse customer base in various markets is required . A successful candidate will be able to distill complex design and certification challenges into executable actions.
Primary Responsibilities:
Develop product architectures and design approaches
Technology development and maturation
Technical proposal development
Developing technology and product roadmaps
Awareness of roadmaps from within our wider Avionics engineering organizations
Review of Systems Engineering artifacts across multiple products and platforms
Support development of certification strategy and compliance showing activities
Contributing to the certification of products in military and civil environments
Teaching and mentoring
Ensures compliance with Avionics Engineering Processes
Ensures compliance with product and program requirements per development plans
Mentor systems engineers and collaborate closely with hardware, software, and firmware teams
Troubleshooting, fault isolation, root cause analysis, delegation to functional teams
Some domestic and international travel is expected
Qualifications/Experience Required:
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience
A degree in Electrical or Systems Engineering is preferred
Development experience spanning the entire product life-cycle
Experience with Avionics regulatory and certification requirements: TSO, DO-160, DO-254, DO-178B/C, DO-297, ARP-4754A , AC 20-170
Demonstrated success in balancing system performance and affordability

The salary range for this role is 143,000 USD - 287,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
