Rockwell Collins Inc. d/b/a Collins Aerospace has an opening for a Principal Engineer, Software Engineering in Cedar Rapids, IA. This is a 100% remote position. Occasional travel to the Company’s Cedar Rapids, IA facility for program and department-related activities may be required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct complex tests and debug control and diagnostic systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.

  • Liaise closely with other project team members in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software to ensure smooth operations on software engineering activities.

  • Make recommendations on changes in the selection and application of software production components, implement major components, present design reviews, and coordinate with other organizations to improve and develop software engineering activities.

  • Design and implement build procedures that are used to support hardware and software product development and function.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and at least 8 years of progressive experience in a Software Engineer or related role. In the alternative, at least a master’s degree or its equivalent in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and at least 5 years of experience in a Software Engineer or related role would be acceptable.

  • At least 5 years of experience in real-time embedded software development process, including: understanding requirements, coding, test/debug, writing test cases and test procedures, running test procedures, and performing structural coverage analysis.

  • At least 5 years of experience with software/hardware integration.

  • At least 5 years of experience leading/guiding/driving a small to medium sized team of engineers to complete specified scope to meet customer milestones.

  • At least 5 years of experience with aircraft systems and interfaces with ARINC communication standards.

  • At least 5 years of experience working as part of a software development team using DO-178B/C Level B/A processes and documentation.

  • At least 5 years of experience developing software using the C programming language with assignment including developing new applications, as well as modifying existing applications.

  • At least 5 years of experience with a variety of software languages like Python, Java, C++ or Simulink modeling languages used for writing graphical applications or develop innovative testing tools.

The salary range for this position is $ 119,454.00 to $196,000.00 per year. This is the correct compensation range. Please disregard any additional verbiage noted below pertaining to the salary range.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
