-Job Description:

 

Serve as director of the K12 Professional Development Office and a Non Tenure Track Lecturer or Non Tenure Track Assistant Professor located within the College of Education and Family Development at Southern Utah University. The director will lead and continually develop the K12 Professional Development program and course offerings, ensuring academic quality. This position will be a 11-month contract (negotiable); summer work will be required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

• Work in collaboration with Deans, Secondary Education Designees, and Department Chairs of Teacher Education in facilitation, scheduling, and assessment of school district or agency professional development programs.

• Serve as primary contact for new partners in conjunction with the K-12 Program Team.

• Help monitor and manage Utah and Nevada State Board of Education Endorsement programs, including approval of proposals for new courses, usage of existing university courses, and ensuring high academic quality standards for proposed courses.

• Develop and maintain strong, effective long-term partnerships with Utah school districts, and other significant partners, focused squarely on meeting their needs with in-service professional development, concurrent enrollment courses, and certificate options.

• Collaborate with school districts to discern and advocate for course needs and market programs to other districts or entities.

• Encourage and review School District applications for professional development opportunities, find and train professional development adjunct instructors, create program folders, and support student registration.

• Direct and supervise employees of the K-12 Programs unit.

• Continually update, provide oversight, and maintain K12 applications, forms, databases, website, and guiding documents.

• Coordinate with service offices and other appropriate offices on SUU's campus.

• Continually maintain professional development records, personnel and evaluation files, prepare annual K12 reports, and ensure confidentiality of all secure information processed through the K12 Office.

• Continually monitor and implement the new APPEL, APPEL-S, and SLPD professional development initiatives, as well as future initiatives to be determined.

• Use and/or build courses in the Banner system, using existing courses where available, which are part of certificates or other professional development needs of districts.

• Teach 1-2 courses per semester.

• Other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

 

Required:

 

• Master's degree in Education or related field.

• Experience collaborating with school districts, agencies, and service centers to prepare professional development for current K-12 teachers and other professionals.

• Experience working with administrators and teachers in creating professional development opportunities.

• Experience in curriculum development, teacher competencies, and learning services.

• Strong communication skills.

• Strong organizational skills.

• Experience in a leadership role.

• Exper ence advocating for professional development programming.

• Demonstrated awareness and experience with issues of educational equity and pedagogical inclusion.

Preferred:

 

• Doctorate Degree in Education or related field.

• Experience as a leader in the field of education (e.g. teacher leader, principal, superintendent, community/agency leader, etc.).
