Director of Nursing Graduate Programs

 

The Director of Nursing Programs ensures the Southern Utah University (SUU) College of Health Sciences, and the Department of Nursing (DON) maintains compliance with the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) Criteria for Evaluation of Nurse Practitioner Programs and with accreditation standards for graduate nursing programs based on the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) criteria. They will also maintain currency of programs with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) essentials. The Director of Nursing Graduate Programs develops strategies to improve the quality and delivery of graduate nursing education, including the Family Nurse Practitioner Program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

• Participating in leadership by maintaining the development, implementation, and evaluation of graduate nursing education within the graduate of nursing programs to assure quality of outcomes. These functions include:

• Supports and maintains high quality education for graduate nursing students within the SUU DON and any other future graduate nursing programs.

• Participates in continuous development and quality improvement of graduate nursing programs in the SUU DON.

• Assists in data collection and evaluation of the educational components of SUU DON nursing students.

• Provides information to Student Services about student fit with scholarships for graduate nursing students.

• Provides leadership for strategizing and implementing new educational models for graduate nursing students.

• Maintains regular communication with the SUU DON graduate faculty and SUU DON Chair to coordinate courses and programs of study.

• Advances the graduate nursing programs by monitoring issues, trends, and future direction of the graduate nursing education.

• Maintains ongoing, active involvement as an educator at the graduate level.

• Resolves issues and concerns arising in the educational planning, implementation, and evaluation of graduate nursing students.

• Continuously assesses compliance with accreditation standards and assist in the preparation of accreditation reports for SUU DON graduate nursing programs.

• Serve the Department of Nursing, College of Health Sciences, University, community, and profession:

• Participating in Department of Nursing faculty, standing committees, task force and other meetings.

• Participating in College of Health Sciences, University Assembly and Faculty Senate Committees and ad hoc committees.

• Participating in community and professional activities as appropriate.

• Participating in scholarly projects as appropriate.

• Contributing to the mission and strategic priorities of the DON, COHS, and Southern Utah University.

• Collaborating effectively with other faculty and staff members both within the DON and throughout the University and community to develop inter-professional academic, clinical, and research opportunities.

• Engagement in clinical scholarship or research and leadership/service.

• Teach in the current graduate programs, including the family nurse practitioner program, at SUU.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

 

• Graduate of an accredited College or School of Nursing and either hold a current Utah APRN License or be qualified to attain a Utah APRN License as a family nurse practitioner prior to the start date.

• Hold national certification as an APRN as a family nurse practitioner.

• Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing or a related field is required.

• Eligible for appointment as a Tenure Track Assistant Professor or higher rank.

• Strong and contemporary working knowledge of nursing profession, nursing education, higher education, and health care delivery.

• Demonstrated leadership and participation in acc editation, curriculum development and evaluation, academic advisement, and admissions processes preferred.

• Demonstrated leadership and ability to work collaboratively and productively with individuals and interdisciplinary groups.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to foster a collegial and respectful work and educational environment.

• Exemplary record of scholarly achievement commensurate with rank and attuned to matters of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Appointment:

 

• This position includes a 3-credit hour release per semester for administrative effort with the remaining 9 credit hours per semester allocated toward teaching, scholarship, and leadership/service.

• It also provides one 8-hour day per week for personal clinical practice. This is a 12-month appointment, with annual review.
