PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER II (Range 740)

$62,635 - $81,987 per year

Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on the position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

Training and Experience

Any combination of training and experience that provides the above listed knowledge, skills and abilities may qualify. A typical way of qualifying would be:

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school and one (1) year of public safety dispatch experience

  • Must possess P.O.S.T. Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Certificate

  • Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification must be completed within one year of hire

  • Possession of a Communications Training Officer Certificate from P.O.S.T. or willingness to attend a 40-hour Communications Training Officer course within 6 months of appointment to the position is required

  • Typing speed 35wpm

    Other Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a background investigation

  • Must be willing to work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts on a rotation basis

  • Must be willing to be called back or held over to maintain minimum staffing levels

  • Upon conditional offer of employment, selected candidate(s) will be required to pass a physical and psychological evaluation.

    The City will honor an acceptable typing certificate dated within the last year from the following agencies: state, federal, municipal agency; temp agency; business schools or colleges; adult education centers; skills and business education centers. If you are unable to obtain a typing certification on your own, please contact Human Resources for available alternatives.The typing test offered through NTN will not be accepted as part of this requirement.

BACKGROUND DISQUALIFIERS:

  • An adult felony conviction in California, or with a conviction for an offense in another state which would be classified as a felony in California

  • Currently on Probation or Parole

  • Adult felony and/or misdemeanor conviction(s) may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and how recent

  • Conviction of/or sustained petitions for any sex crime

  • Recent use and/or possession of illegal drugs, weapons or explosive devices without legal authorization

  • History of committing domestic violence or animal cruelty

  • Dishonesty or failure to reveal pertinent information
