Indian Health Service Kinesiotherapist in Cass Lake, Minnesota

Summary This position is located at the Cass Lake Service Unit in Cass Lake, MN in the Rehab Services Unit. Incumbent assesses, plans, implements and evaluates delivery of cardiac rehabilitation services to patients referred to the program. Further contributes to cardiac rehabilitation and the hospital through support of philosophy and objective educational efforts and research efforts. Also involved in the ongoing development of cardiac rehabilitation as well as wellness programs. Responsibilities Monitor and assess each patient's response to exercise including electrocardiography (EKG), blood pressure, heart rate, rating of perceived exertion (RPE), appearance and progress or end treatment accordingly. Monitors participants and reports any inappropriate responses to exercise; terminates exercise as needed demonstrating regard for patient safety. Evaluates patient progress toward short and long-range goals of treatment program. Report to referring physicians (primary provider and/or cardiologist) concerning each patient's progress with treatment and any adverse reactions. Communicates with nursing staff as needed. Educate patient and family on the health-related aspects of improving cardiovascular health and issues involved with deconditioning. Managing medical concerns (Hypo/Hypertension, Hypo/Hyperglycemia, O2, Dysrhythmias). Develops comprehensive exercise treatment programs for Phase II cardiac rehabilitation with progression to independent home exercise/fitness center program use to promote long term cardiovascular health on discharge. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Individual Occupational Requirements All applicants must meet the following education and certification requirements: Education Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in kinesiotherapy, physical education, physical therapy, exercise science or sports medicine. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a professional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Educating patients on nutritional health, diabetic, and tobacco cessation, and diseases related to cardiovascular health. Promoting a healthy lifestyle to patients and cardiovascular health. Health coaching and lifestyle management with patients. Creating exercise treatment programs for patients. Experience in using EKG machines, dopplers, blood pressure monitors, vital machines. Knowledge of AEDs and CPR OR 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized. At least a 6 month service agreement will be required.
