Description

This is an exciting opportunity to work and grow in the Carson City Public Works Department! The individual selected to fill this position will be working with a group of talented team members in an environment with modern technology and a focus on continuous improvement. Thisis a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position with Carson City Public Works. Under general supervision, administers, configures and operates software systems and databases associated with City computer systems. Provides technical support to City employees regarding the use of computers, networks, peripheral hardware and software.

Bachelors of Arts degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field may be accepted in lieu of an Associate's Degree and two (2) years of work experience.

Employees may choose between the following: Employer-Paid PERS Retirement:$22.0303 - 33.0455 hourly / $45,822.92 - 68,734.64 annually Employee/Employer-Paid PERS Retirement:$26.1454 - 39.2180 hourly / $54,382.38 - 81,573.44 annually

The salary is subject to negotiation based on qualifications and experience.

  • Develops, implements and maintains software solutions and databases; assists in upgrades and modifications to software systems.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains low level reports leveraging business intelligence tools to provide historical, current and predictive views of business operations.
  • Designs, installs, tests, documents and maintains local area network systems, software and database applications; troubleshoots and resolves hardware and software problems.
  • Designs, installs, tests, documents and maintains personal computer systems; assists users in determining their hardware and software needs; install and customizes software and ensures that vendor hardware and oftware are functioning appropriately.
  • Trains users in use of software and hardware.
  • Confers with department staff to determine information system needs; researches vendor hardware and software options; ensures that potential acquisitions coordinate with existing hardware, software and systems.
  • Instructs user department staff in the operation of hardware and software; ensures that there is proper written documentation and instructions for non-technical personal computer and network users.
  • Provides assistance and instruction to part-time or intern staff; ensures that their work is completed in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Maintains accurate records and files related to work performed.
  • Maintains current knowledge of desktop and network hardware and software; makes recommendations for acquisition and upgrading.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team.

Typical Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience:

Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; AND two (2) years of experience in the installation and troubleshooting personal computer hardware and software; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid Class C Driver's License.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of:

  • SQL, SSMS (SQL Server Management Studio), SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services)
  • Reporting: Power BI
  • Process Management, CMMS (Computerized maintenance management Systems), and/or EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) software
  • Standard desktop computer system hardware and business application software operating capabilities and limitations.
  • Principles and practices of application development.
  • Use of specified computer applications involving word processing, office automation and/or standard report generation; the selection and installation of personal computer and network hardware and software.
  • Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.
  • Record keeping principles and practices.
  • Local area network hardware and software capabilities and installation techniques.
  • Documentation and user instruction methods and techniques.
  • Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals, at all levels of responsibility, in person and over the telephone.
  • Communicating effectively in oral and written forms.
