Essential Functions

Location – Carencro, LA

Education – B.S. in Engineering. Preferred – Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering

Experience – 2+ years industrial experience preferably in a process or manufacturing plant (does not have to be as an Engineer)

Summary Role Description

Newpark Mats and Integrated Service’s Manufacturing Team is seeking a qualified technical person to strengthen our manufacturing excellence which is core to our market leadership in composite matting. This is a visible multidisciplinary hands-on role is responsible for continuous improvement, process excellence, new products scaleup, and strategic manufacturing reconfiguration and expansion. You will work with the manufacturing plant staff daily and share the organizational production and quality goals. We are looking for a person who prioritizes safety and has strength and experience in Engineering, Automation and Continuous Improvement. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on self-learner who is willing to both work in a manufacturing and office setting. The role requires teamwork, presentations, and regular internal communication with the division management, plant management and vendors.

Job Responsibilities & Expectations

  1. Committed to maintaining a safe workplace.

  2. Troubleshoot and maintain process uptime and quality goals. Current manufacturing process consists of plastic extrusion and molding.

  3. Manage Capital Equipment Projects by working with both internal and external teams.

  4. Be proficient in Microsoft suite, and the ability to learn different technical software and databases.

  5. Basic familiarity of statistical data analysis, Six Sigma & Lean tools.

  6. Ability to create and analyze process flow diagrams.

  7. Ability to understand machine configurations and specifications. Ability to conduct a gap analysis if a specific machine or a process step is operating at, above or below the design guidelines.

  8. Basic familiarity with selection, use and working of various automation equipment and sensors.

  9. Be an integral part of new product-process development from the manufacturing processability side.

  10. Ability to design and conduct small scale tests to validate hypothesis. Proficiency in using basic mechanical tools and power tools.

  11. Responsibility for drafting and revising standard operating procedures and process/equipment workflows.

  12. Responsible for frequent reporting and internal presentations.

  13. Familiarity with basic plastics and metallic materials of construction and their properties.

  14. Responsible for staying current with technical advances in pertinent manufacturing processes.

  15. Be able to communicate with new engineering vendors and machine manufactures and travel to assess or conduct new machinery trials.

  16. Proficient in searching and understanding technical publications.

Education & Experience Requirements

Bachelors Degree in Engineering or educational equivalent. Entry level. Basic analytical skills. Good verbal and written communication skills. Basic problem-solving skills. Knowledge of general principles, concepts, theories, and practices of applicable discipline.

Position Summary

Develops and implements production methods. Recommends and implements improvements in the production process. Usually works under close supervision of senior level engineers. Provides product support, manufacturing support, and failure analysis. May design special tooling and fixtures for field, manufacturing and engineering use. Receives specifications and design constraints from team leader. Handles special projects, as assigned.
