Gentex Corporation Maintenance Technician in CARBONDALE, Pennsylvania

PURPOSE:

Supports all Optical Departments by performing repairs and preventive maintenance on all equipment, assists various technicians in maintaining the equipment, and keeping it in good operating condition maintenance and repair of molds used in the injection molding process for the manufacture of lenses.

EDUCATION AND/OR PROFESSIONAL LICENSE(s):

Minimum two- (2) year Technical Certificate from college, technical or vocational school; or 5 or more years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

LANGUAGE SKILLS

· Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

· Ability to write simple correspondence. 

· Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

· Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILL AND ABILITIES

· Ability to use calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools. The ability to generate reports and graphs as needed. Computer proficiency to include SPC, software is required. 

· Ability to create charts and reports is necessary. 

· Ability to operate walk behind pallet trucks or forklifts. 

· Ability to create work instructions or other process procedures. 

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Removal/reinstallation of molds in injection molding machines

· Assembly/disassembly and cleaning of molds 

· Shimming of molds for prism, thickness, etc. 

· Molding machine screw and barrel cleanings as required.

· Align and balance new equipment after installation.

· Assemble, install and/or repair wiring, electrical and electronic components. 

· Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery. 

· Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary. 

· Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools. 

· Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions, following checklists. 

· Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments. 

· Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions. 

· Order parts, supplies, and equipment from catalogs and suppliers, or obtain them from storerooms. 

· Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly. 

· Record maintenance and repair work performed. 

· Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools and reassemble equipment.

Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The individual must have a high level of comprehension, and a high level of general, verbal, written, and numerical intelligence.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Works majority of the day in a climate controlled environment, with the exception of or otherwise specified, performing work in the warehouse or manufacturing areas which are subject to changes in temperature and/or noise.

 

TRAVEL:

Generally, travel is not required

Gentex's Carbondale facility is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania in Lackawanna County. Carbondale, PA is about twenty miles north of Scranton, PA, 50 miles south of Binghamton, NY, and about 125 miles from New York City and Philadelphia.
