  • Extensive knowledge of Apex, SOQL, and Lightning Web Components

  • Proven background in launching significant system enhancements and release cycles

  • Deep experience managing metadata as code, including Salesforce DX, git, or unmanaged packages

  • Experience with the Salesforce Educational Data Architecture model (EDA) or Education Cloud

  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodology

  • Experience with designing, creating, and deploying Experience Cloud sites, and with community licensing

  • Familiarity with SQL, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, FormAssembly, Conga or other document- generation tools, Gearset or other deployment tools

  • Deep insight into the technology/Higher Education sector

  • Self-motivated and creative

Position Description:

The Senior Salesforce Technical Lead will be part of Harvard Medical School's Information Systems team, responsible for the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) from project inception through implementation. The role, and team, also provide ongoing support for Harvard Medical School systems that support core functions related to (but not limited to) Human Resources, Finance, Research Administration, Facilities Management, and Faculty and Student Affairs.

The Senior Salesforce Technical Lead will report to the Director of CRM Systems. Working with other IT staff they will develop and configure solutions for HMS IT's Salesforce implementation. They will also manage the Salesforce release process for the team, including review, testing, and deployment.

The ideal candidate is energized by solving problems in new and innovative ways, is comfortable working in an ever-changing environment, and can engage with stakeholders to identify the minimal viable product for frequent delivery of new technology solutions.

Core Duties:

  • Create solutions using advanced knowledge of Salesforce's standard declarative tools, including Flows and formulas; security and access elements such as permissions, sharing, and groups; Dynamic Forms; and reporting.

  • Interact directly with clients, managers, and end-users as necessary to analyze project objectives and capability requirements, including specifications for user interfaces, customized applications, and interactions with external services.

  • Manage daily support of the release process and conduct long-term improvements to ensure compatibility with evolving mission requirements.

  • Provide tier-two support of internal and customer-facing Salesforce environment, primarily related to customized applications, workflows, and integrations.

  • Lead the testing and implementation of custom development efforts, including coding, configuration, maintenance, installation, testing, debugging, managing timelines, and producing technical documentation.

  • Develop and document standards and best practices with the team, such as naming conventions user interface standards, code vs. config decision trees, synchronous vs. asynchronous processing, and permissions and access models.

  • Design and enhance foundational services in areas such as user management, and common frameworks in areas such as logging, that support and enhance HMS’s multitenant Salesforce implementation.

  • Foster team knowledge-sharing of advanced declarative capabilities and integration possibilities between declarative tools and code.

  • Development-focused impact and opportunity analysis on new releases from Salesforce and managed package providers; staying up to date with roadmaps for both products in use and candidates for use.

  • Evaluate and reduce technical debt.

  • Assist in vendor selection and manage vendor work for applicable projects.

  • Mentor junior staff and contractors as needed.

  • Develop end-user documentation and training materials and conduct training.

  • Maintain a flexible and proactive work environment to facilitate quick responses to changing project requirements and customer objectives and innovate ways to meet mission goals successfully.

  • Participate in representing the group to Harvard and external audiences.
