Westlake Chemical Production Superintendent in Calvert City, Kentucky

Directs the operation of the Energy/Environmental Department. Responsible for compliance of environmental issues, directing projects, safety reviews, quality issues, mechanical integrity, ISO 9000 and plant efficiency.

Fully support Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on project teams.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Troubleshoot existing operations and implement improvement ideas to assure that Westlake CA&O meets key plant goals and objectives for Personnel Health/Safety, environmental protection, raw material usage, production, and operating costs.
  • Stay abreast of the latest technologies. Make recommendations as required to assure that Westlake CA&O is a competitive production facility.
  • Supervise work activities for the E/E supervisory group. Develop key employee work goals and objectives. Evaluate individual performance and recommend corrective actions as required to improve performance.
  • Assign responsibilities for monitoring department conformance to safety and environmental regulations. Direct process calculations as required to assist Safety and Environmental groups. Recommend improvements and initiate new projects as required to meet new Safety/Environmental regulations and/or improve compliance with existing regulations.
  • Coordinate work activities between the E/E Department and the other plant support groups (production, project engineering, maintenance, accounting, environmental, and safety).
  • Assist in development of department budget for utility usages. Supervise routine monitoring and analysis of plant utility usages. Recommend appropriate operating conditions and process controls as required to optimize raw material and utility efficiencies. Prepare monthly progress reports.
  • Assign responsibilities for monitoring daily operating conditions, maintaining current operating conditions, maintaining current operating logs and current operator data sheets.
  • Assign responsibilities for monitoring equipment uptimes and maintenance requirements for key process equipment. Direct process equipment inspections and recommend repairs.
  • Assign responsibilities for monitoring daily plant lab test results.
  • Coordinate department process revisions. Assure that appropriate MOCs have been initiated, approve plant MOCs and supervise department procedures/training activities. Approve final process revisions and revised plant PFDs and P&IDs.
  • Oversee material and energy balances work as required. Direct and evaluate data collection for special studies and test projects. Review/edit results and reports.
  • Supervise process design work for new projects. Approve final project scope, PFDs, and P&IDs. Direct development of new procedures, operator training, and process startup activities as required.
  • Assist project engineering group with AFE preparation, evaluate project benefits, and set priorities for project implementations. Work with project engineering to develop plant capital spending plan and develop project schedules.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering discipline or progressive technical experience acceptable to management. Experience in operating in a chemical plant preferred.
