Southwest District Health (SWDH) is recruiting a WICClinical Assistant to join the dedicated group of public health professionals in theWomen, Infant, and Child (WIC) Supplemental Program within the Family and Clinic Services Division.
As aWICClinical Assistantand public health employee, you will serve an active role in improving the health of your community. As part of a small, but mighty team, you will screen applicants for program eligibility for WIC. You’ll be responsible for providing basic one-on-one or group nutrition and breastfeeding promotion and support for our clients, issue food benefits, WIC cards, and referrals to internal and external health and community resources following the mission, vision, and values of SWDH.

Our generous benefits package boosts total compensation for a full-time Clinical Assistant, transforming the base pay range from $17.74 - $20.87/hour to an estimated total compensation value, including benefits, of $28.30 - $32.13/hour, showcasing our investment in your well-being and professional growth.
Typical Duties:
Candidates must be able to complete the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation and meet all the mandatory qualifications of the position.
Provide client focused services in accordance with SWDH and Idaho WIC Program policy and procedures
Under Supervision, work to review income, residency, and identity information to determine eligibility (certification) for the WIC Program in accordance with Idaho WIC Program policy and procedures
Enter information accurately into management information systems (MIS) for all client interactions
Complete anthropometrics (height and weight) and biochemical (hemoglobin) measurements
Complete health assessment interviews using motivational interviewing techniques and provide nutrition education tailored to nutrition risk and participant interests
Work with participants determining appointment plan for WIC certification period
Promote breastfeeding and provide support and education based on clients' interests and needs
Offer referrals to community resources as determined by nutrition and health assessment
Issue and educate on electronic benefit card following management information system (MIS) prompts and policies. Follow up with new card holder as needed
Replace lost or stolen cards per policy
Issues and track breastfeeding equipment following policy and procedures
Travel and deliver services from assigned location(s)
Provide services in -person, by telephone, on-line, or virtually
Minimum Qualifications:
You must possess all the minimum qualifications listed below to qualify for this position. All required experience and/or education must be listed under the work history section of this application OR on your resume and must include a detailed explanation of your roles and responsibilities at each relevant employer.
This position requires the completion of Idaho WIC Program Certifier Training Program within 3-6 months from the date of hire.
Minimum Qualifications (MQ):
Some knowledge of health and nutritional needs of adults and children
Approximately 6 months or more of related work experience in the following areas: - Interviewing and eliciting personal information
Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
- Recording information accurately and legibly
MQ Specialty :
Valid Driver’s License
High School Diploma or equivalent
Ideal Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities :
Some knowledge of:
Interviewing methods
Written and verbal communication skills
Approximately 6 months or more of related work experience in the following areas:
Interpreting, explaining, and applying regulations, laws, or complex policies to carry out assignments
Independently handling complaints and upset individuals in a business setting
Conducting sensitive fact-finding interviews
Ability to speak, write and read both English and Spanish
“Some knowledge” is typically gained through either 2-4 relevant college courses, 6 months to 2 years of entry-level related work experience, or a combination of coursework and experience demonstrating the necessary knowledge.
