Overview

Fairview Health Services is hiring a Registered Nurs e (RN) to join our Perianesthesia team at our Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN!

Our Perianesthesia nursing staff provides quality and compassionate care for patients before and after same-day surgery/procedure as well as surgeries that occur before and during admission to the hospital. We provide emotional & educational support with preoperative phone calls, during their stay with us and post-operative follow-up phone calls. Our team of nurses and techs/nursing assistants work closely with multiple disciplines to provide a patient and family centered experience. About Fairview Ridges:

  • At Ridges Hopital we perform approximately 8,000 surgical cases per year in our 12 OR rooms using the latest in technology.

  • Perianesthesia supports 12 PACU bays and 18 Pre/post op Bays.

  • OR specialty areas including: Spine, Ortho, OB-GYN, General, ENT, and Urology.

  • Proactive pre-admitting department that prepares Pediatrics-Adult patients in advance of their visit and collaborates closely with Anesthesia. Child Life is available on site to work with pediatric patient.

  • Procedures range from out-patient to surgical admissions, and include pediatric to geriatric patient population

Schedule:

This Perianesthesia nursing position will be working 48 hours every two weeks on the rotating day/evening shift and 8 hour shifts. Schedule requires call shifts during the week (1 night / month), weekend call (one weekend a month) and holiday call rotation. 30 minute call in time.

Responsibilities Job Description

As a Perianesthesia RN, you will be responsible for:

  • Assess patients and patient condition according to Perioperative Policy and ASPAN Standards, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s) who are anticipating and recovering from procedure(s) and anesthesia.

  • Coordinate care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.

  • Demonstrates ability to deliver care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.

  • Evaluates care, adapts interventions and prioritizes care based on patient assessment, uses resources to respond to emergency situations.

  • Some specific duties include pre-admission phone calls, admissions day of surgery, monitoring and continuously assessing patients following procedure until ready for transfer to the floor-as well as Phase 2 care to include intensive patient education that assures readiness for discharge to home.

  • Critical care skills needed to include airway and hemodynamic management, pain management, and excellent assessment skills for patients in altered states of consciousness.

  • Will evaluate patient responses to interventions including; administration of medication, responses to anesthesia, and risks related to surgical procedures.

  • The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedure, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 1 year experience as RN in a PACU/ ICU/ED or ER or other critical care areas, including experience with advanced airways and telemetry.

  • MN RN licensure or by start date

  • Current BLS for healthcare providers by start date

  • Requires ability to provide written validation of current ACLS, PALS or PEARS competency or ability to obtain written validation within 6 months of hire.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Nursing or willingness to obtain

  • Strongly prefer 1-3 years of experience as RN in PACU and/or Perianesthesia,

  • Perianesthesia certification
