Job Description

AECOM Canada is seeking an experienced Lead Transit Engineer to join our growing Highways Engineering team . The successful candidate will be based in Burnaby and will play a key role in shaping and delivering transit infrastructure projects across Metro Vancouver, Canada, and beyond.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership: Lead and contribute to transit planning, design, and implementation projects, ensuring high-quality technical analysis and project coordination.

  • Transit Network & Corridor Planning: Oversee planning and feasibility studies for bus rapid transit (BRT), light rail transit (LRT), commuter rail, and rapid transit expansion projects.

  • Station & Facility Planning: Support the functional design and integration of transit stations, terminals, and multimodal hubs within urban environments.

  • Policy & Business Case Development: Conduct transportation policy studies, business case assessments, and infrastructure investment evaluations to support transit expansion strategies.

  • Operations & Service Planning: Provide expertise in transit service planning, fleet management strategies, and transit priority measures to optimize system performance.

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Public Consultation: Work closely with government agencies, transit operators, and community groups to develop transit solutions that align with regional transportation goals such as transit oriented developments.

  • Environmental & Regulatory Assessments: Support environmental impact studies and regulatory compliance for transit infrastructure projects.

  • Data Analysis & Modeling: Utilize travel demand models, transit ridership forecasting tools, and operational simulation models to assess project viability and performance.

  • Supporting Network: Experienced with planning for multi modal travel demands including integration with land use and other facilities such as local and regional mobility hubs, MUP and transit facilities.

  • Business Development: Support and lead proposals, expressions of interest, and client engagement efforts to expand AECOM’s transit portfolio.

  • Mentorship & Team Collaboration: Guide and mentor junior engineers and planners, fostering a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, or a related field with a strong emphasis on transit planning and design.

  • 6+ years of experience in transit planning, project management, or transportation infrastructure planning, design and development.

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Registered Professional Planner (RPP, MCIP), or eligibility for certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in transit planning, transportation engineering, or policy development, with a focus on multimodal integration.

  • Strong understanding of transit operations such as rapid transit network design, transit priority measures, and high-frequency service planning.

  • Experience working on major transit infrastructure projects, such as BRT, LRT, and rail transit expansions.

  • Familiarity with regional transportation policies and funding mechanisms in British Columbia and Canada.

  • Proficiency in transit modeling and analysis tools such as TransCAD, EMME, VISSIM, Synchro, and GIS software.

  • Experience leading or contributing to business cases, funding applications, and feasibility studies for transit projects.

  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills, including experience with public consultations and stakeholder engagement.

  • Knowledge of construction traffic management and temporary traffic control measures for transit infrastructure projects.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $105,000.00 - $140,000.00.
