Advertising/Posting Title Boiler/Chiller Plant Operator

Posting Summary

Operate, repair and maintain Central Utility Plant and its associated equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Monitor the Building Automation Control Systems (Honeywell and Johnson). Coordinate with Facilities Scheduling and other Campus users to ensure proper system programming and schedule updates to meet the campus needs. Dispatch mechanics in response to critical and non-critical system alarms, contact building occupants as required and update building operations to ensure maximum energy conservation. Communicate with a variety of University personnel to effectively and efficiently manage the utility resources. Access information utilizing appropriate desktop applications. Promote a workplace that encourages safety within the shop and field. May operate University vehicle. Reports to a Zone Supervisor and requires active engagement in learning and practicing principles of social justice and inclusion, environmental sustainability and delivering great customer service experiences.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

High school diploma, vocational courses and three years of experience in heating and/or cooling plant operations and maintenance to include chiller experience required. VT Fuel Oil Burning Equipment Installer (Limited) Certificate and a VT Natural Gas Certification or ability to obtain within six months required. Building Automation Management Systems experience required. Effective verbal communication skills required. Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain and driver’s check may be required. Experience using computers required. Comfortable in confined spaces and with heights. Specific physical requirements may apply based on job functions. Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE ) when performing specific job functions. Initial employment contingent upon successful completion of background check and physical screening.

Desirable Qualifications

Anticipated Pay Range $30/hr to $34/hr

Other Information

Special Conditions Bargaining Unit Position - United Electrical Workers, A probationary period may be required, Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime), External candidates must complete a 4-month probationary period, A probationary period may be required for current UVM employees, 40 hour work week, 2nd Shift (Shift differential applies.), This position is ineligible for telework due to the essential functions, Background Check required for this position, A post-offer pre-employment (POPE test) physical examination is required

FLSA Non-Exempt

Union Position Yes, UE ($18 minimum hourly rate)
