Job Title: Phlebotomist (Float)Job Description
The primary function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This is a float position, requiring travel primarily within the Tacoma or Burien area, but also potentially from Burien to Gig Harbor. The individual will fill in at various PSC locations and IOP (in-office phlebotomist) locations within the CHI health system to cover openings, FMLA, or sick calls.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate.
Update patient information as required.
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal).
Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Fully understand all physicians' orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.
Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% correctness.
Package specimens for transport.
Store specimen samples according to required temperature.
Essential Skills
Phlebotomy
WA state Phlebotomy license
Experience with pediatric and geriatric patients

Work Environment
Shift: Monday to Friday, 6am-7pm. Availability is required during these times depending on the location being covered. Training will be provided in Seattle for 2 weeks, after which the individual will move to their work location. Mileage can be expensed for travel to training.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.
