Residence Life Nurse Job Description

The person hired for this position would move into the on-campus boarding houses and be available for the start of the school year in August, 2024.

Position: Residence Life Nurse

Classification: Exempt

Hours per week: 40+

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Knowledge of and experience with relevant technology

Position Summary:

The Residence Life Nurse is responsible for overseeing basic medical matters in the Boarding Village, under the supervision of and with the assistance of the Director of Health Services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Possess and model a growing relationship with Christ and accept and uphold The Brook Hill School's Statement of Faith

  • Seamlessly and deliberately integrate Biblical truth and Christian values into day-to-day duties

  • Take an active role in ensuring the school's effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues that must be addressed; providing pertinent information and commentary to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing directives

  • Communicate with Director of Health Services on medical needs, questions or situations.

  • Attend quarterly S.H.A.C. meetings (occurring during shift hours)

  • Dispense prescription and OTC (over the counter) medicines according to student needs and dosage schedule; record any activity in student database

  • Handle minor medical treatments, e.g., applying cold packs and band-aids, taking temperature, give OTC medicine for pain and fever, and other minor medical and first aid duties as needed.

  • Prepare medications and notify appropriate Boarding Parent for weekend medication dispensing.

  • Pick up prescriptions at pharmacy after school as needed and when available (Daytime Residence Life Associate and Director of Health Services can pick up most of these during their shifts when RL Nurse is off-duty). Most of these will only pertain to antibiotics since those are the most urgent; other meds can wait until the next day in most cases.

  • Assess symptoms to determine what should be done with sick or injured students, including referrals to ER.

  • Check on sick boarding students in the dorms during the school day when available and on duty, according to work schedule.

  • Assisting Boarding Parents with systems and protocol necessary to medically care for their students.

  • Anything necessary (within reason) to care for the medical health of 120 boarding students.

  • Improve leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities

  • Occasional evening or weekend work required as it relates to the duties described

  • Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor, the Head of School, or another designee of the Head of School

Physical Requirements:

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard

  • Bending at the waist, kneeling, squatting, or crouching to file materials

  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs
