CTG is seeking to fill a Scrum Master II opening for our client in Buffalo, NY.
Location: Buffalo, NY
Duration: 6 months
Overview:
Provides servant-leadership and mentorship to multiple cross-functional agile teams through effective application of Agile principles and frameworks including Scrum, Kanban, and Extreme Programming (XP)
Strengthens understanding of effective practices, theories, and techniques to support continuous improvement
Educates and coaches teams to create an environment that fosters self-organization, cross-functionality, collaboration, conflict resolution, transparency, and continuous improvement
Visualizes, communicates, and radiates team information to keep their work and impediments visible to stakeholders
Primary Responsibilities:
Utilize a broad knowledge base of agile practices including user stories, retrospectives, story mapping, ATDD, TDD, continuous integration, pairing, information radiators, etc., to help create high performing teams
Encourage a continuous improvement culture within agile teams through transparency, collaboration, and retrospectives
Curate and deliver team-level coaching content on agile practices
Facilitate agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
Promote workflow transparency using effective information radiators
Resolve blockers beyond team authority and coordinate with other teams to keep projects on track
Collaborate with other Agile Leaders to enhance Agile implementation across the organization
Mentor less experienced Scrum Masters
Foster ongoing learning through communities of practice, conferences, meetups, reading, and training
Adhere to company risk and regulatory standards, escalating issues as necessary
Design, implement, and maintain internal controls to mitigate risk
Promote a culture of diversity and inclusion that reflects the M&T Bank brand
Maintain internal control standards and address audit points or regulatory issues as applicable
Perform other duties as assigned
Scope of Responsibilities:
Supports multiple agile teams, functioning as a key leader and coach within an Agile organization
Plays a critical role in driving agile maturity and operational excellence within the teams
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:
- While not having direct management responsibilities, the position leads through influence, accountability, and ownership within an agile environment
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years of experience as a member of an agile team, including at least 2 years of experience as a Scrum Master
OR, in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 8 years of higher education and/or work experience, including at least 4 years as a member of an agile team and 2 years as a Scrum Master
Knowledge of the banking industry
Previous Scrum Master experience
Previous Scaled Agile experience
Education and Experience Preferred:
Depth of knowledge in at least two technology team roles (e.g., project manager, user experience, business analyst, developer, testing, deployment)
Experience fostering team self-organization and continuous improvement
Strong understanding of Agile and Lean principles and practices
Experience in developing/managing digital capabilities
Familiarity with Design Thinking principles
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience leading through influence
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.
