Lactalis American Group is the North American division of the world’s largest dairy corporation and is the parent company of Sorrento Lactalis, Inc.

The production facility located in Buffalo, NY processes 750 Million lbs. of milk annually. The facility manufactures Mozzarella, Provolone, Ricotta and Shredded cheeses in various formats for retail, food service and industrial customers as well as producing dried Whey Powder. The Buffalo plant employs 325 individuals in the Cheesemaking facility and another 50 employees in the Distribution Center located on the same site.

Location: Buffalo, NY (Housing Provided if Needed)

Term: Summer (May to August)

Core Responsibilities:

o Is responsible for maintenance and revision of Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

o Ensures accuracy of internal procedures and compares vs groupe procedures from DQG.

o Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and sustainability.

o Revise Internal Audit program related to laboratory tasks.

o Implement special projects and procedures as directed.

o At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will meet with the Lab Manager and Quality Assurance Manager and present a formal report on the key topics learned during the internship. Including the scope of the project, what their role was in the process, daily activities, key techniques used, and outcome of results of the project and the impact it has on the company.

Requirements

  1. Pursuing a degree (BS, MS) in Food or Dairy Science or other related education.

  2. Creativity, Attention to detail and accuracy in work required.

  3. Personal qualities of tact and dependability and ability to work well with others required.

  4. Strong communication abilities, written and verbal.

  5. Knowledge of computer software.

  6. Experience in the food/dairy industry is preferred.

  7. Must be dependable and be able to work well in a team environment.
