Job Summary

The Psychotherapist 1 role involves providing much-needed therapy and counseling to people and their families. This can include different forms of group therapy. An important aspect of the role also includes assisting in the evaluation of the therapeutic needs of patients who have been referred for these services.

What You'll Do

  • You'll start by reviewing and evaluating orders from senior staff members, as well as the medical records of patients. Using this information, you'll carry out diagnostic assessments to establish the need for psychotherapeutic treatment.

  • Once a treatment course is established, you will use the correct tools and techniques to implement appropriate evaluation tests and measurements. Your goal is to create relevant programs that align with prescriptions, direction, and goals set by physicians.

  • Coming next is carrying out one-on-one, family and group psychotherapy sessions, making sure to utilize effective psychotherapeutic techniques. These techniques should align with the prescriptions, direction, and goals established by doctors for the patient's benefit. And if there's an emergency, you'll be ready to step in and provide quick intervention and assessment.

  • Another crucial part of your role involves evaluating the effectiveness of treatments and monitoring patients' progress. This evaluation will play an essential part in establishing or revising treatment specifics. You'll also be expected to conduct the necessary tests to diagnose and treat patients' problems and track their progress. Doing so requires upholding professional standards at all times.

  • Communication is key in this role, so you'll need to be able to convey information clearly and concisely. This includes anything that may affect the treatment program or patient well-being. You will be compiling clinical progress notes and fulfilling other documentation requirements according to office policies and procedures. If needed, you'll also lend a hand with teaching activities.

  • Part of your duties also involves understanding and fulfilling professional and technical requirements, and providing documentation as proof of this understanding and completion.

  • Lastly, you'll give orientation to the patients on office policies regarding treatment compliance, cancellations and no shows. As part of this function, you'll monitor patients' cancellations and fill vacant appointment times from patient cancellation lists. You'll also be responsible for enforcing no show policy with patients, taking into account their unique situations.

What Will Make You Successful In The Role

  • Understanding the basics and specialized aspects of psychotherapy, including relevant tests, treatments, recovery techniques and practices is required.

  • Familiarity with various counseling and therapeutic approaches is also necessary.

  • Proficient at interpreting interviews and test results for diagnostic purposes.

  • Skilled at conducting solo and group psychotherapy sessions.

  • Capable of comprehending behavioural deficits and discrepancies.

  • Skilled at crafting comprehensive rehabilitation plans, overseeing their execution and managing behavioural adaptations.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities are essential.

Belonging Statement
