ICF Accounting Manager in Brussels, Belgium

ICF International, Inc. is a NASDAQ listed global consulting and technology services company. We are currently looking to appoint a strong and experienced Accounting Manager, to be based in our Brussels office. This role will report to the Senior Finance Director - Europe & Asia, based in London.

Our European businesses focus around strategic communications (marketing) and consulting to governments, and is currently going through a period of growth, offering the successful candidate broad development opportunities and an excellent opportunity for making an impact.

Day-to-day the successful candidate will carry out wide-ranging responsibilities such as financial close and reporting, coordination of audits and liaising frequently with internal/external stakeholders within the Benelux region. The candidate will also be managing a team of three direct reports, also based in our Brussels office. Key to success in this role will be an outgoing and inclusive style, working closely with a global team to deliver the required results.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Leading the Accounting team, including Accounting and Payroll, managing the day-to-day accounting within our Maconomy ERP system;

  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the regional accounting records and financial systems;

  • Manage the preparation of the monthly field reporting pack for each company, explaining key variances;

  • Proactively detect, identify and explore opportunities to improve processes, procedures and financial controls;

  • Identify business/commercial improvements, as a rounded contributor to the management team.

  • Work closely with HR to ensure accurate payroll operation, accounting and associated reporting;

  • Completion of VAT returns, as well as having a good working knowledge of Belgium VAT requirements, including domestic and foreign VAT implications;

  • Oversee preparation of annual financial accounts, liaison with the statutory auditors and tax advisors/corporate tax; ensuring all GAAP and tax requirements are met;

  • Assist the Tax and Treasury department, including the production of monthly cash-forecasting, information for tax computations and completion of annual tax packs;

  • Ensure the business has a strong framework of corporate governance and ensure that the requirements of the group’s internal control requirements are met, including liaison with internal audit;

  • Provide leadership, mentoring and coaching to the local Finance team

  • Work closely with the operations as well as other key functions to achieve the finance department’s objectives within the context of the broader business;

  • Present on accounting matters to regional business leadership;

  • Ad-hoc projects including leading on any potential regional acquisitions and associated due diligence and integration;

  • Provide future additional support across continental Europe operations.

Skills and Requirements:

Experience

  • ‘Top tier’ Audit firm trained, with 3+ years of hands-on experience in a finance manager role;

  • University degree is mandatory;

  • Fluent in French and a very good command of verbal and written English is essential;

  • Working in an international environment, liaising with overseas colleagues;

  • Have a good understanding of Belgium GAAP and US GAAP;

  • Experience in working in an international professional services consultancy or strategic communications environment would be an advantage;

  • Good experience with revenue recognition in a service organisation;

  • Experience with Belgium payroll accounting and Belgium VAT filings;

  • Experience on the requirements of Belgium Works Council;

  • Previous experience with Maconomy, will be advantageous but is not essential;

  • Excellent MS Excel skills.
