POSITION DETAILS
New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY) is a comprehensive college offering associate and baccalaureate degree in technology and health related degree programs, other career-oriented degrees and liberal arts transfer degrees in its Schools of Arts and Sciences, Technology and Design, and Professional Studies. The Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance at City Tech welcomes applications for the Assistant Vice President for Administration and Finance. The Assistant Vice President for Administration and Finance is a senior executive leader reporting directly to the Vice President for Administration and Finance. This role drives strategic vision, operational excellence, and financial stewardship across all administrative and fiscal functions as head of the Business Office.
The Assistant Vice President for Administration and Finance works collaboratively with the Assistant Vice President for Budget and Finance on internal and external audits and prepares audit responses; interacts with CUNY, State, City and federal officials on business matters and practices of the College; and oversees all accounting and reporting matters for the institution and Related Entities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Partner closely with the Assistant Vice President of Budget and Finance, and leverage the accounting team for key information points, including historical reporting and data collection, which may include activities related to cost accounting, margin reporting, data analysis and management reports, activity-based project costing, customer management, or report generation.
Direct comprehensive budget and financial operations, overseeing the management of all tax levy and non-tax levy accounts, and adapt to evolving financial structures.
Collaborate closely with the College’s Budget Office to align financial planning with institutional priorities, ensuring fiscal sustainability and transparency.
Responsible for identifying opportunities to leverage and redesign processes, ERP transformation/conversion, tools, and technology to improve financial operations.
Provide recommendations to leadership regarding all significant strategic and financial decisions, oversee the implementation of decisions, and analyze data and systems to inform decision-making.
Use solid financial knowledge and business acumen to build financial models and analyses with little guidance to conclude and make recommendations that deliver results and drive improvements.
Develop communication plans for administrative, operational, or technical changes and determine the timeline for disseminating communication and support.
Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with financial legislation, policies, and procedures.
Direct and supervise staff in the day-to-day systems operations and lead the team in developing and deploying systems and analytics to support decision-making.
Guide direct reports in developing operational plans and timelines for all projects and initiatives; foster engagement, team building, and consensus across the organization through regular meetings, collaborations, mentorship initiatives, and other professional-sound methods.
Perform related duties as assigned by the Vice President for Administration and Finance.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree in Accounting, CPA license, and prior experience in CUNY is preferred.
Eight (8) years of progressively responsible full-time paid experience in an administrative or managerial capacity in systems operations, accounting/financials, information systems development, or a closely related area. Equivalent experience in related fields may be considered.
Experience implementing and managing financial systems, including but not limited to: cash management, accounts receivable and payable, budgeting, procurement, campus services and asset management.
Experience with ERP software, such as PeopleSoft, or Workday, is strongly preferred.
Knowledge of financial data and systems integration with a solid working knowledge of bank integrations, payment processing, and compliance with financial regulations (e.g., 1099 processing, Federal Work Study Billing, Financial Aid, and Student Refund processing).

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$145,000 - $190,000. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
