The Sawmill Production Manager is responsible for ensuring efficient production processes, maintaining high-quality output, and managing a team of workers. This role requires strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of lumber manufacturing operations, machinery, and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Production & Operations Management:

· Plan, coordinate, and oversee all sawmill production activities to meet production targets and quality standards.

· Optimize production processes to improve efficiency, minimize waste, and maximize yield.

· Ensure proper maintenance and operation of equipment, working closely with the maintenance team.

· Monitor raw material inventory levels and coordinate with procurement department to ensure a steady supply of logs.

· Implement lean manufacturing and continuous improvement strategies.

Quality Control & Compliance:

· Enforce quality control procedures to ensure lumber meets industry standards and customer requirements.

· Maintain compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.

· Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure adherence to safety protocols and best practices.

Team Leadership & Staff Management:

· Supervise, train, and develop production staff, ensuring high performance and productivity.

· Promote a positive work environment, teamwork, and strong communication across departments.

· Schedule and assign tasks to ensure efficient workflow.

Cost & Budget Management:

· Monitor production costs and implement cost-saving measures.

· Assist in budgeting and financial planning for the sawmill and planer departments.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement:

· Maintain accurate production records and generate reports for senior management.

· Analyze production data and implement process improvements.

Qualifications & Requirements:

· Minimum 5 years of experience in sawmill operations, with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role.

· Strong knowledge of lumber processing, sawmill and planer mill equipment, and safety standards.

· Proficiency in production planning, process optimization, and inventory management.

· Leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team.

· Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

· Knowledge of OSHA, environmental regulations, and quality standards related to sawmill operations.

· Experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other efficiency improvement methodologies is a plus.

Work Environment:

· Primarily based in a sawmill environment with exposure to noise, dust, and heavy machinery.

· Requires standing, walking, and occasional lifting of heavy materials.

· May involve working extended hours or weekends as needed.
