Position Summary: **Under the general supervision of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Assistant Medical Director/Pediatrician is responsible for the medical care program for children from birth through adolescence to aid in mental and physical growth and development: Examines patients to determine presence of disease and to establish preventive health practices. Determines nature and extent of disease or injury, prescribes and administers medications and immunizations, and performs variety of medical duties. Additional responsibilities include, clinical protocol development and supervision of foster care health program, including weekly supervision of the Medical Foster Care Nursing Supervisors; review of medical records of children in foster care, focusing on children with special health care needs; review and development of foster care clinical policies and procedures; and development, implementation, and oversight of a continuous quality improvement program for children in foster care for whom Children’s Aid (CA) serves as the medical home.

Responsibilities: **

Clinical:

  • Provides comprehensive primary care to children and adolescents.

  • Collaborates with nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, nurses and health educators in the provision of care.

  • Makes referrals to qualified specialists.

  • Maintains the medical record.

  • Participates in quality improvement activities.

  • Promotes integrative practice.

  • Collaborates with other CA programs at clinical sites.

  • Participates in the 24 hour on-call system.

  • Performs other related duties, as required.

Administrative:

  • After developing with the CMO, the Assistant Medical Director implements and oversees clinical policies and procedures for foster care health, including regular review of medical records.

  • After developing with the CMO, the Assistant Medical Director oversees policies and procedures to assure compliance with OCFS and ACS standards for foster care medical, dental and behavioral health.

  • After developing with the CMO, the Assistant Medical Director implements and monitors annual training programs for health and wellness staff at all levels on foster care health.

  • Participates in joint program planning meetings with CWFS leadership.

  • With the Assistant Medical Director, develops and oversees health related parent education programs, focusing on foster parents and birth parents of children in foster care.

  • Serves as Acting Medical Director in the absence of the Medical Director.

  • Participates in Health and Wellness Continuous Quality Improvement Committee.

  • Participates in Health and Wellness divisional program planning.

  • With the Vice President for Health and Wellness and the CMO, serves on local and state community health related committees focusing on foster care health representing CA.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine, from an accredited university required.**

  • Graduate of an accredited Pediatric Residency Program; Board Certified in Pediatrics.

  • Licensed to practice medicine in New York State.

  • Work effectively and enthusiastically with children, adolescents, adults, families, professionals and persons from a wide range of cultural, social and economic backgrounds.

  • Must have 8-10 years' experience working in a medical office/clinic and at least 3 years’ experience in a health leadership/administrative capacity, focusing on children in foster care.**
