Job Summary

BHE GT&S Technical Services Team is currently seeking an experienced Engineer II or Engineer III to join their team! There is one position that will be filled either as an Engineer II or Engineer III commensurate with the selected candidate's skills and experience.

BHE GT&S is an interstate natural gas transmission and storage company headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, that became a standalone subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy in November 2020. We operate more than 5,560 miles of gas transmission line and 756 Bcf of underground storage in the eastern U.S., along with gathering, processing and field services businesses. We operate in 12 states. BHE GT&S is an industry leader in liquefied natural gas solutions, through initiatives such as Pivotal LNG and our 25% operating stake in the Cove Point LNG facility in Lusby, Maryland. The energy we deliver supports major distribution utilities, power plants and manufacturing. Our premier storage operations provide dependable, flexible support for direct customers and neighboring pipelines. At our multiple interconnects – especially the liquid South Point hub – BHE GT&S services support both producers and consumers, ensuring competitive access to abundant energy.

This role will primarily support various electrical engineering needs at GT&S. This engineer will develop, design, evaluate, and recommend engineering solutions, procedural language, and facility plans/proposals for gas transmission facilities by applying engineering theories, principles, and practices. This role will provide project specific electrical engineering support as well as development and verification of procedures and guidelines such as project design criteria, construction specifications, and related documents.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Develop detailed designs and engineering drawings for projects

  • Serve as engineer and project manager on electrical engineering projects

  • Perform electrical design reviews on various natural gas facilities

  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, laws, and company policies.

  • Develop and maintain specifications for electrical materials/equipment;

  • Develop interpretations and guidance documents for various industry specifications

  • Support various GT&S procedure consolidation efforts

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

Engineer II:

  • Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years engineering work experience OR

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3 years engineering work experience

In addition to the above:

  • Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals surrounding natural gas pipeline construction and maintenance is required

  • Knowledge of applicable regulations such as PHMSA and FERC is required

  • Knowledge of relevant electrical design practices is required

Engineer III:

Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years engineering work experience OR

Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 6 years engineering work experience

In addtion to the above:

  • Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals surrounding natural gas pipeline construction and maintenance is required

  • Knowledge of applicable regulations such as PHMSA and FERC is requried

  • Knowledge of relevant electrical design practices is required

  • PE License is preferred

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for both Engineer II and Engineer III:

  • Requires experience in a professional engineering position.

  • Competency in applying complex engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives.

  • Ability to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs

  • Planning, organizational and project management skills.

  • Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills.

  • Effective decision making skills.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).

  • Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.

  • Ability to create engineering drawings and relevant plans in AutoCAD, Cadworx, or similar software.

Education Requirements

Education Level: Required: Bachelor , Disciplines: Required: Engineering

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA:

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

  • Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry or Math and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

  • Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Depending on functional responsibilities and location of position must review ANS 3.1 12/79, ANSI N18.1-1971 or ANSI/ANS 3.1-1993 and DOM-QA-1 as appropriate.
