Job Summary

A position is available in Aquarion Water Company of Connecticut’s Eastern Division Distribution Department for a Utility Worker. Applicant will be responsible for performing maintenance, repairs, and the operation of company-owned distribution systems. A minimum of three years experience in field service, distribution or related field is required. The applicant must also meet the following minimum requirements; have a high school diploma, a valid Commercial Driver’s license in the State of CT, strong customer service orientation and strong mechanical skills. Must understand and be able to interpret distribution maps, tap cards and engineering drawings. Position will primarily report to the Eastern Division.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repair to company owned fire hydrants, service lines, valves and blow offs, including flushing, valve operation, and pressure testing of water mains.

  • Operate equipment such as jackhammers, gate machines, pumps, flushing tubes, leak correlating equipment, tapping machines, data collection tools, pipe locating tools, utility trucks and trailers.

  • Must be highly responsive to resolving customer complaints regarding leakage, up to and including emergency repairs.

  • Perform fire flow tests using Pitometer equipment and calculate flows. Must have good computer skills.

  • Maintain all tools, comply with company safety rules, and perform other or lesser skilled duties as assigned including meter reading.

  • May participate on the Distribution Department standby roster.

Education/Certifications

  • Requires CT Motor Vehicle License. A good driving record (DMV check required).

  • License & Certifications: Shall obtain a CT DI Distribution Operator Certification within 24 months; then shall obtain a CT DII Distribution Operator certification within 36 months; then shall obtain a CT DIII Distribution Operator certification within 60 months, and upon such DIII certification will receive a pay upgrade and will be eligible for a standby rotation.

Salary

  • This position is classified as a Grade 8, with a rate range that has a training wage of $38.69/hr.

  • Successful candidate will move through Step 1 through 9 of the range at 6-month intervals with satisfactory performance to the maximum salary.

  • Upon attainment of a Class III Distribution certification, employee will progress to Grade 9 wage range.
