CN Senior Manager, Intermodal Network Operations in Brampton, Ontario

Job Summary

The Senior Manager, Intermodal Network Operations is responsible for facilitating the smooth movement of intermodal traffic across the network, from pre-gate operations to coordinating the transportation of intermodal trains to their destinations. The role involves overseeing day-to-day performance to ensure alignment with CN's commercial commitments and operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Collaborating with internal stakeholders, the incumbent develops plans to meet customer expectations effectively. Daily interactions with Intermodal (IM) Planning Managers, Reservations (RV) Managers, Account Managers, and Customer Service Managers are essential, prioritizing traffic to safeguard revenue opportunities and advance strategic initiatives.

Main Responsibilities

Network Planning and Capacity

· Oversee the Network Operations and Reservations team

· Handle capacity management

· Adjust and communicate across all Intermodal and Transportation stakeholders

· Work closely with commercial team on new products ensuring a smooth transition

· Monitor and ensure the right volume moves on the right lane to drive and improve balance commitment as agreed by the Commercial team

· Work closely with the Ports in order to have proper amount of traffic on our trains for each destination

· Communicate frequently with Senior Leadership from various functions

· Manage multiple issues with competing priorities simultaneously

· Collaborate with Information and Technology (I&T) on enhancements and development of new systems

· Innovate and brainstorm ideas from reporting to processes to better engage the team and customers

Internal Collaboration

· Work closely with CN’s Sales and Marketing team to develop products that meet the customer’s needs, while aligning with CN’s strategy

· Work closely with the Terminal Operation team and ensure the right traffic moves on the right trains

· Work closely with Service Design to develop train plans that meet customers commitment

Leadership and Team Development

· Engage and motivate Managers and Asset Officers

· Set clear team objectives

· Determine a career plan for each manager that focuses on development needs and support development plans

· Coach and provide a learning experience to the team by encouraging creative thinking

· Evaluate team and individual performance

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The incumbent must be available to work weekends when necessary. The role requires minimal travel across Canada and the United States (U.S.). In exceptional cases, the role might require being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress.

Experience

Leadership

· Minimum 5 years of leadership experience

o Performance management, railroad and transportation experience

o Intermodal planning experience

Education/Certification/Designation

· Bachelor’s Degree with equivalent experience

Technical Skills/Knowledge

· Knowledge of railroad operations, carload flows, private track ownership flows

· Knowledge of workforce management and principles of cost to serve

· General Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

· Knowledge of CN’s operating systems (Service Reliability System (SRS), Smart Terminal, Reservation tool)*
