General Statement
Montana State University seeks a dynamic Associate Director of Programs. This position reports within Campus Recreation, which aligns with the Student Wellness area, within Student Success. This position will be a crucial part of managing the programs, processes and infrastructure within the new Student Wellness Center, 185,000 square foot facility that will be home to Campus Recreation, Student Health Services, Health Advancement and Counseling & Psychological Services.
The Associate Director of Programs will provide leadership and expertise in administering all recreation-based programmatic offerings. The Associate Director assists the Director with the programmatic, financial and personnel functions of the department. The Associate Director will be responsible for building and cultivating relationships with numerous campus constituents to help advance the mission of the university, the division, and the department. This position will create and implement training and retention strategies and professional development opportunities for all Campus Rec professional staff. The Associate Director will supervise classified staff, and report to the Director. The Associate Director will serve on the departmental leadership team and act as Director in the absence of Director.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee a department annual curriculum / integrated program calendar to ensure consistency and intentionality in programs and services
Assist Director in annual budget processes and associated strategic planning. Help identify and secure supplemental funding sources
Implement and manage annual assessment plan
Intentional collaboration and strategic engagement with colleagues within Student Success, Campus Rec, Associated Students of Montana State University ( ASMSU ) and various campus NS community partners
Lead assessment analysis and reporting to inform decisions and program efforts
Create and implement annual professional development efforts for RSF professional staff
Lead programmatic strategic planning
Foster an environment which is passionate about student development and the mentoring of young professionals
Ensure Campus Rec programs are designed to align with student learning outcomes, strategic planning, and overall departmental and University goals
Actively lead and/or participate in staff meetings, staff trainings, regional and national organizations, University-wide committees and work teams, and other departmental meetings as appropriate.
Maintain awareness of and make recommendations based on industry standards and trends
Lead, manage, supervise, and mentor 3 Campus Rec Senior Coordinator professional staff (Fitness, Competitive Sports, Outdoor Rec)
Supervise student employees when necessary
Maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others
Contribute to department wide strategic planning, student development, outreach and recruitment efforts

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Sports Management, Business, Sport Science or an equivalent combination of relevant work experience and education
Five years of collegiate recreation administration/management experience
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Master’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Sports Management, Business, or Sport Science
Successful management experience in planning, budgeting, hiring, staff training, scheduling, and ordering equipment
Experience hiring, training, and/or supervising professional staff
Prior experience using Innosoft Fusion or other membership/recreation facility management software
Skill in strategic planning
Current certification in CPR / AED or the ability to obtain the certifications within three months of hire (in-house training is available)
