The Materials Department is responsible for managing the flow of the supplies and equipment throughout the hospital beginning with acquisitioning straight through to delivering to the providers and patients. We ensure quality and adequate levels of supplies are available through our Supply Chain processes. We provide 24/7 support for supplies and equipment requests throughout the hospital for both onsite and offsite departments.

In addition, we process all the supply deliveries throughout the BIDMC campuses receiving and delivering to the original requestor.

This is a fast paced environment and the attention to detail and communication to the end users is key to providing top quality customer service.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Receives all products coming into the medical center by physically inspecting packages and entering the needed information into the materials management information system (MMIS). Appropriately placards all product for clear delivery to over 1000 end users.

  2. Provides top level customer service to all internal and external customers in regards to supply requests, delivery requirements, problem resolution, and general information inquiries. Researches all undeliverable product to determine end user or disposition as instructed.

  3. Provides weekly analytics on department productivity, service failures, and quantitative data on number of lines orderd and delivered to the materials supervisor.

  4. Coaches and mentors fellow team members on proper inventory management techniques, customer service expectations, and safety protocols within materials management under the direction of the materials supervisor.

  5. Assures all storeroom procedures are followed including stock putaway, cycle counting, and stock issuance. Provide weekly reports to the materials supervisor on stock levels.

Required Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma or GED required. Associate's degree in Logistics preferred.

  2. 3-5 years related work experience required.

  3. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

  1. Ability to operate motorized material handling equipment.

  3. Independence of Action: Ability to follow precedents and procedures. May set priorities and organize work within general guidelines. Seeks assistance when confronted with difficult and/or unpredictable situations. Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager.

  4. Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.

  5. Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

  6. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations. Specialized knowledge not required.

  7. Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.

  8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Physical Nature of the Job:

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.
