State of Massachusetts Infection Surveillance Nurse - RN IV in Boston, Massachusetts
The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH) is seeking a passionate and skilled Infection Surveillance Nurse (RN IV) to join our team. Under the direction and collaboration with the RN V Infection Preventionist, this role plays a pivotal part in executing our Infection Prevention and Control Program, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. From investigating infectious diseases to guiding best practices in prevention and control, you'll drive meaningful improvements in patient safety and care quality. Join us in making a difference while upholding strict adherence to hospital policies, HIPAA, and federal confidentiality laws. /_Schedule:_/Monday-Friday, 8:30-5pm, with weekends off /_Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_/ * Conduct surveillance to identify infectious conditions, including contact tracing, and collaborate with clinical staff to implement infection control strategies. * Review adherence to transmission-based precautions and infection control practices, and ensure compliance through collaboration with clinical teams. * Participate in environmental safety rounds, targeted rounds, and tracers to monitor infection prevention and control compliance. * Report communicable diseases to local, state, or national agencies as required. * Collect, analyze, and report infection data as part of the Infection Prevention and Control and Hospital Quality Program. * Support the creation and implementation of infection-related policies, procedures, and educational programs. * Monitor adherence to staff policies prohibiting direct patient contact when communicable diseases are present. * Serve on hospital quality committees and contribute to quality improvement activities like root cause analysis and performance enhancement. * Maintain up-to-date expertise on infection prevention-related federal, state, and local regulations. /_Required Qualifications:_/ * Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, terminology, and standard abbreviations. * Expertise in sanitation, sterilization techniques, and preparation of charts, graphs, and tables. * Skilled in planning and conducting nursing training using effective methods and techniques. * Strong communication abilities, including clear and concise writing and providing precise instructions. * Proficient in gathering information through observation, interviews, and record examination. * Experience in collaborating within a multi-disciplinary healthcare team. * Analytical ability to assess medical data, draw conclusions, and recommend actions. * Competent in preparing statistical and general reports. * Comfortable interacting with individuals under physical and emotional stress. * Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends, holidays, and nights. _/Preferred Qualifications:/_ * Familiarity with laws, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines governing agency and unit activities. * Knowledge of types and applications of agency forms. * Ability to explain regulations, policies, and standards related to assigned unit activities. * Proficient in collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and summarizing data. * Understanding of health care administration principles and practices. * Expertise in methods for evaluating nursing practices. /About the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital:/// Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. Shattuck Hospital’s services help economically and socially disadvantaged patients to get high quality, cost-effective care from a staff that respects their dignity. Located in the heart of Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 248 inpatient beds including 95 Psychiatric beds and 29 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction and House of Correction inmates and community patients. The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory, administrative or managerial capacity or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.* No substitutions will be allowed for the required (B) experience. Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES:Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required. Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines.
