We are seeking an exceptionally qualified experimental genome scientist to join the emerging Lilly Genomic Sciences team at Eli Lilly. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape the vision of the Lilly Genomic Sciences team from the ground up, and to contribute to a diverse array of research projects spanning multiple therapeutic areas and data types. In this role, the selected candidate will lead experimental research initiatives using state-of-the-art functional genomics approaches and platforms while leveraging other advanced data generation modalities.
The ideal candidate will be a thought leader with excellent scientific communication skills, who has a deep knowledge of molecular biology, gene regulation, and human genetics; and who has a substantial track record of generating and leading the generation of high-quality data. They will spearhead close collaborations with computational counterparts who are using state of the art analysis approaches to interpret functional genomics data and leverage its use for ongoing drug development efforts at Lilly. A strong background in performing NGS–based screens (e.g. MPRA, STARR-seq, CRISPR regulatory element screening, deep mutational scanning, etc.) and genomics assays (e.g. ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, Hi-C, etc.) is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Intellectually contribute to the development of a vibrant team of genome scientists who are fiercely dedicated to the application of state-of-the-art genomics approaches to pharmaceutical innovation
Establish, implement, and execute highly robust and reproducible experimental strategies related to high-throughput quantitative biology
Continue to develop, implement, and execute advanced genomics technologies, such as MPRA/STARR-seq, CRISPRi/a, and single-cell omics to drive functional genomics insights for drug discovery, target validation, and AI/ML modeling initiatives
Design, optimize, and implement experiments using complex screening models, including cell lines, primary cells, differentiated cell types and in vivo systems.
Drive technology innovation to streamline workflows, increase throughput, and enhance data quality in high-throughput assays
Present scientific findings and progress to internal and external stakeholders, contributing to publications, patents, and conference presentations
Mentor, train, and professionally develop research scientists and staff within the team
While not the primary focus, this role may involve some genomics data analysis.
Basic Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in genomics, genetics, molecular biology, or a related scientific field with 3+ years relevant industry or academic research experience (can include post doctoral experience).
Additional Skills/Preferences:
A deep knowledge of genomics, and hands on experience implementing, troubleshooting, and developing genomics assays
A proven track record of high performance on highly collaborative interdisciplinary functional genomics teams
Cross-training in computational biology strongly preferred
Ability to clearly communicate scientific material, efficiently manage time, and work collaboratively
