As a Retirement Account Specialist (Technical Records Specialist 2), you work directly with PERSI membership to provide accurate and timely information in a professional and meaningful way. You also have the ability to be flexible and manage priorities, have an easy-going attitude, and enjoy working with both internal and external customers.

You will report to the Member Services Supervisor and be the primary point of contact for PERSI members. You’ll work together with the PERSI staff to build stronger relationships with our members at every step of their retirement journey. Additionally, you will be a key contributor in identifying areas to improve service for our membership.

As a Retirement Account Specialist, you will:

  • Update member records, including demographic information, tax withholdings, separation benefits, direct deposit changes, and beneficiary designations.

  • Process deceased member accounts, and initiate death benefit payments.

  • Be a resource to members by providing over-the-phone customer service.

  • Assist members with in-person customer service.

    Minimum Qualifications:

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the minimum qualifications for this position. Failure to do this may disqualify you from being considered for this position.

Experience:

  • Monitoring record systems to identify and correct errors - This is typically gained with at least one year of experience (or more) monitoring records systems, identifying problems and correcting errors.

  • Interpreting, explaining, and applying laws, regulations, and complex policies for multiple or highly specialized programs - This is typically gained with at least one year of work experience which frequently required interpreting and applying a variety of difficult rules, regulations, or policies to determine compliance or eligibility and explaining decisions to others. Decisions are complex and can affect the social or economic well-being of others or will result in a service or action being denied.

  • Analyzing information and researching a variety of sources to identify and resolve problems or issues - This is typically gained with at least one year of experience performing extensive research and analysis of highly complex or technical material requiring in-depth program knowledge in order to determine if requirements were met and if they complied with established laws and/or policies. Research must have included contacting a variety of sources both inside and outside the organization to collect, obtain, and verify information and determine the appropriate course of action.

  • Dealing with individuals from varying cultural and socio-economic backgrounds in stressful situations - This is typically gained with at least one year of experience dealing with individuals from varying cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds in stressful situations which dealt with personal, sensitive, or confidential information such as eligibility requirements, health issues, or financial matters.

  • Entering and retrieving data using a computerized record system - This is typically gained with at least six months of experience in a work setting that required entering and retrieving data in a database records system or other computer records system.

  • Composing and proofreading business correspondence - This is typically gained with at least one year of office experience which required composing and proofreading a variety of business documents on a regular basis; OR, I with the completion of at least one college-level English composition or business English class AND six months of experience composing business documents.
