The Fleet Manager is responsible for planning, directing, managing, coordinating and supervising the programs for acquisition, assignment, utilization, maintenance, repair, replacement and disposal of fleet vehicles. Fleet manager also serves as the primary contact concerning the vehicle fleet and operations. Fleet Manager will make the ultimate decision whether a vehicle is safe to have on the road.

Campus Security Authority: This position is identified as a \"Campus Security Authority (CSA)\" per the federal law known as the Clery Act. Per this law, the employee is required to report any crimes that he/she becomes aware of to the Clery Compliance Officer. Additionally, CSAs are required to complete annual training prescribed by the Clery Compliance Officer.

Level Scope:

Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees at the entry or intermediate level. Functions as advisor to unit and administration and sets goals and objectives for team members for achievement of operational results. Analyzes and resolves problems through drawing from prior experiences. Interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of campus resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.

Essential Functions:

General

Manages personnel, including hiring, supervision, and evaluation, to ensure effective team performance.

Oversees all aspects of vehicle fleet management, from procurement and maintenance to compliance and environmental impact, including strategic decisions on vehicle acquisition, assignment, and disposal.

Develops and implements comprehensive operational strategies, training programs, and compliance measures for vehicle and equipment assets, aiming for cost-effectiveness and adherence to regulations.

Public Safety Standard Employee Responsibilities

Provides comprehensive support and problem-solving for the Department and campus community.

Manages administrative projects and represents the Department in various internal and external groups.

Maintains and enhances professional knowledge and departmental efficiency through continuous learning and engagement.

Public Safety Supervisor Responsibilities

Oversees all aspects of Fleet Maintenance, including personnel management (hiring, scheduling, performance reviews) and ensures departmental efficiency and compliance.

Fosters a cohesive team environment through effective communication, pro essional development, and customer service initiatives.

Develops and implements training programs to maintain regulatory compliance and enhance staff proficiency.

Fiscal Responsibilities

Manage all financial aspects of University vehicles and equipment, including budgeting, expenditures, and reconciliation.

Direct the procurement process for fleet equipment and supplies, ensuring adherence to University guidelines and state contracts.

Oversee budget development and fuel card program management for the department.

Program Operations

The Fleet Manager oversees all aspects of the University fleet vehicles and equipment, from acquisition and maintenance to disposal, ensuring compliance with policy and regulations.

This role includes managing operational processes, such as fuel administration and vehicle maintenance, to optimize cost-effectiveness and efficiency.

The Fleet Manager is also responsible for developing and implementing training and operational standards, ensuring proper vehicle and equipment usage and care.
