Overview
The Data Governance Professional plays a pivotal role in safeguarding and optimizing our organization’s data assets. They ensure data quality, integrity, security, and regulatory compliance by developing and implementing robust governance policies, standards and procedures. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, they drive enterprise-wide data initiatives to support strategic goals.
Develop and Implement Policies: Create and enforce data governance strategies tailored to healthcare data, ensuring consistent management of clinical and operational data.
Ensure Compliance: Monitor data practices to comply with HIPAA, and other regulations.
Data Quality: Conduct assessments and audits to maintain high standards of data accuracy, completeness, and reliability.
Collaboration: Collaborate with IT, legal, compliance, clinical, research, and business teams to establish and maintain data standards, definitions, and classifications that support patient or member care and operational efficiency.
Training: Develop and deliver training programs on data governance policies and best practices for clinical and non-clinical staff.
Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation, including data lineage, and metadata repositories, to support data governance initiatives and facilitate data discovery and understanding.
Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks related to data management, ensuring patient, member and employee data security.
Lead cross-functional teams: to deliver complex tasks, develop scalable processes, and uphold data stewardship while working through ambiguity and with minimal guidance.
Patient and member Data Protection: Safeguard patient and member data confidentiality and ensure ethical use of protected health information (PHI) in accordance with healthcare standards.
Interoperability and Data Sharing: Manage data governance for secure data sharing with external partners, adhering to standards and contracting agreements.
Reporting: Generate reports and dashboards on data governance activities and their impact on patient or member care and organizational performance.
Change Management: Lead change management initiatives to promote a data-driven culture and adoption of governance practices, as applicable, across the organization.
Continuous Improvement: Continuously improve data governance practices to adapt to evolving regulations and organizational needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in health informatics, computer science, data science, healthcare administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Minimum of 4 years of experience in data governance, data management, or a related field, preferably in healthcare or a highly regulated industry.
Knowledge of healthcare regulations, such as HIPAA, or experience ensuring compliance in a regulated environment.
Familiarity with EPIC or data standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR), and proficiency in data governance tools (e.g., Collibra) or related technologies (e.g., SQL) is preferred.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess data quality and mitigate risks.
CDMP certification or equivalent (e.g., CIPP, CDPSE) is preferred.
