WATTS Embedded Software Engineering Intern in Blauvelt, New York
This is a summer internship for a college student. The role will last approximately 12 weeks over the summer at our Blauvelt, NY facility.
The focus of this position is to support ongoing engineering testing and validation activities such as hardware, firmware, GUI on unit, mobile and web applications for Watts’ commercial condensing boilers and high efficiency water heaters.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Support design validation and reliability testing of complex embedded systems
Create detailed verification plans for hardware and software testing coving general product test and specific feature test
Assemble and verify test setups and test jigs with unit under test prior to test
Perform rigorous tests to ensure system performance and endurance including electrical noise, temperature limits and extremes, voltage/current limits and extremes, and user-interface testing and user experience
Debug hardware and firmware at component level & integrated system level to arrive at root cause under guidance of senior engineers. Ability to sort hardware from software failures
Generate detailed test reports comparing observed behavior against expected behavior that is derived from specifications
Rework/soldering of small sized components
Experience with benchtop HW validation and test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies & loads, DAQs, Network analyzers) and reading schematics and board layout files
Candidates must be a current junior or senior student pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical / Software / Computer Engineering or Science degree
Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
Must be authorized to work in the U.S., and not require sponsorship now or in the future
Understand technical principles and concepts in Electrical Engineering; familiarity with signal integrity
Knowledge of modern analog and digital electronics and electronic circuits; familiarity with power systems, and UI/UX including mobile and web applications
Communication interface experience such as Wi-Fi, serial communication like RS485, and Arduino
Exceptional programming and debugging skills – LabView, C/C++, or other test software a plus
Ability to take initiative and be resourceful
Ability to communicate and work with colleagues/teams in different departments professionally and effectively
While performing the duties, the employee will be working in an office environment with exposure to the plant floor as well as the Engineering Test Facility. The employee is required to sit, stand walk, use hands to handle objects and other tools. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Employee may be required to lift up to 40 pounds.
