Advance Local National High School Sports Managing Producer - Engagement in Birmingham, Alabama

This is a remote position.

Advance Local has an exciting opportunity for a National High School Sports Engagement Producer. This position is in a new national high school sports team that works in lockstep with local high school sports editors across Advance Local newsrooms to develop articles, lists, video and other engaging content approaches that drive new, incremental audience activity and revenue.

A great candidate must be a fanatic about High School Sports coverage who is excited to promote the best teams and athletes in our coverage area. This person will be building articles that drive user engagement across sites by soliciting reader opinions about rankings, athletes of the week and more through polls, commenting and other engagement strategies.

This role primarily writes articles and can include weekend hours, when necessary.

This is a remote job working within the Advance Local enterprise team.

The base salary range is $65K-$100K per year.

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • A minimum of five years of journalism experience with a proven ability in beat-reporting and writing required.

  • Ability to work independently and remotely under deadline pressure and prioritize tasks appropriately.

  • Solid understanding of news writing, reporting, journalistic ethics and story structure.

  • Demonstrated capability to deliver clean copy.

  • Ability to learn and master multiple applications used to deliver content across a variety of platforms.

  • Mastery of social media and digital interaction to find stories, build sources and share content.

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively and build strong working relationships with multiple stakeholders to understand and identify needs

  • Proven organizational skills including advance planning and coordination of projects and initiatives

  • Technical troubleshooting skills to identify root cause of issues

  • Ability to continuously learn and train others on new techniques

  • Proven analytical skills to interpret data and guide decisions and raise concerns about disparities

This job requires reliable transportation to meet with sources or cover events.

Extensive computer use required.
