Jefferson County Housing Authority Maintenance Mechanic in Birmingham, Alabama

Summary of Job Duties Individuals are hired into this classification and spend initial months learning about the Housing Authority properties, and how to enter data regarding work orders into the software. Training is directed by the Maintenance Coordinator and evaluated by the Coordinator and Property Managers. Following the training period, usually approximately 6 months, the employee will be placed in the rotation for on call and will be eligible for a pay increase. During the training period, the employee will perform a wide variety of journeyman level plumbing, electrical, and carpentry building and equipment maintenance and repair work. The individual may participate in the installation and repair of water and sewer lines and other maintenance and repair projects in which more than one person is required. Prepare records of work performed and supplies used. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED Certification plus some building or apartment maintenance work that included electrical, plumbing and carpentry work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification as Universal Technician (EPA Card) preferred. Other: Valid Drivers License Ability to be insured under the Authoritys vehicle policy Certification as Universal Technician (EPA Card) Individuals who do not have the required EPA card must obtain card within 90 days of hiring
