Cornell Cooperative Extension Events Coordinator - Binghamton, NY in Binghamton, New York

This position will serve as the Events Coordinator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Broome County, reporting to the Association Program Coordinator. The Events Coordinator will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of events and activities at the Broome County Regional Farmers Market and other Cornell Cooperative Extension venues. Responsibilities include developing marketing strategies, promoting events through public relations initiatives, and fostering collaborations with government agencies, fundraising organizations, community partners, educational institutions, and agricultural groups. Additionally, this role will manage most rentals for the Regional Farmers Market, Cutler Botanic Garden, and the Ag Development Center, ensuring compliance with insurance requirements in coordination with the Risk Management Office. The Events Coordinator will also oversee the planning and implementation of events while maintaining the rental calendars for Cornell Cooperative Extension facilities.

POSITION DETAILS:

This position is a full-time, non-exempt position, 37.5 hours per week. The hourly rate for this position is $23.00. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, NYS retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave. Sponsorship for employment visa status is not available for this position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree or Equivalent Education (GED/High School Diploma and one year of transferrable program/functional experience).

  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.

  • Valid NYS Driver License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

  • Ability to work as a team.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience running successful events and fundraisers.

  • Experience with event development and management.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively with community and funding partners.

  • Demonstrated strong ability to utilize a variety of marketing channels to effectively target outreach for fundraisers and other events.

  • Demonstrated ability to do cost-benefit analysis via Microsoft Excel.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively participate in professional team efforts.

  • Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community and professional leaders.

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual means.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technologies for educational and communication purposes (i.e. Internet, Microsoft Office Suite, etc).

    Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction and Management - 35%

  • Provide moderately complex administrative tasks in planning for communication and marketing strategies for the Association and its programs, events and activities at the Broome County Regional Farmers Market and Cornell Cooperative Extension through public relation initiatives and networking/collaborating with government, fundraising, educational and agricultural organizations.

  • Assist in planning effective strategic external and internal communication efforts and marketing efforts to reach target audiences and meet program objectives.

  • Make recommendations to supervisor and/or Executive Director for strengthening and improving marketing plans.

  • Work directly with the Communications Specialist to plan mass media efforts and utilize good marketing strategies to generate appropriate public image and messaging.

  • Assist in the planning of specialty events and activities at the Broome County Regional Farmers Market.

  • Provide Supervisor with program related information to assist the budget development process.

  • Provide moderately complex administrative management support to the overall organization.

  • Assist in monitoring program to ensure that events and activities at the Broome County Regional Farmers Market and Cornell Cooperative Extension conform to policies, meet objectives of the association.,

  • Assist in maintaining rentals and association rental calendars.

  • Work with our risk management to meet all insurance requirements for rental agreements.

  • Assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise in the program utilizing established policies and procedures.

  • Provide low complexity administrative management of established educational program goals.

Coordination/Operation - 60%

  • Utilize excel (or any other program) to create basic financial projections to do cost-benefit analysis to determine if events will be profitable.

  • Handle all aspects of rentals of the Broome County Regional Farmers Market, Cutler Botanic Garden and the Agriculture Development Center.

  • Assist with association wide fundraising efforts including the annual Fresh Food Face Off event.

  • Work to assist with maintaining communication with constituents and the community through variety of methods such as newsletters, e-mails, social media, website postings and content.

  • Under the guidance of Supervisor and the Executive Director, serve as liaison with community organizations for marketing and communications of events

  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of events and activities at the Broome County Regional Farmers Market and Cornell Cooperative Extension. Including setting up the event, décor and arrangement of tables.

  • Assist with coordination, and promotion of events and activities at the Broome County Regional Farmers Market through public relation initiatives and networking/collaborating with government, economic, educational and agricultural organizations

  • Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board and others as necessary.

Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.

  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.
