JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Director of Data Activation will be a key member of the newly established Customer practice at Marriott International spearheading omni-channel and data-driven experience activations for the world’s largest travel and hospitality company. Reporting to the VP of Data Activation and Audience Strategy, the role will be responsible for identifying and delivering opportunities where data can be better leveraged to both elevate the customer experience across channels & touchpoints and deliver superior value for the organization & our owners and franchisees. The position is like being the CEO of a new start-up where enterprise data is the product and internal Marriott teams are the customers. The role is Sales & Marketing, Product Delivery, and Customer Success all rolled into one. Ideal candidate is a natural leader who can sit at the intersection of strategy and execution – working with HQ and continent stakeholders to educate and evangelize the power of data, to translate strategic goals into actionable opportunities, to assess and prioritize based on the potential value and level of effort, to collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable efficient delivery, and to measure and tell our success story.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience Required

• Ten or more years of professional experaience, demonstrating progressive career growth and a pattern of leadership and exceptional performance in strategic and analytically/data-oriented positions.

• 4-year degree from an accredited university

• Experience in building, growing, and retaining high-performing teams

• Proven skill in leading and influencing across multiple functional organizations (e.g., IT, Global, Marketing) in support of business priorities

• Demonstrated experience and success leading with influence across a highly-matrixed, cross functional organization

Education and Experience Preferred

• 4-year degree from an accredited university in a quantitative discipline (e.g., engineering, computer science, mathematics) or a technology discipline (e.g., computer science, information management)

• Master degree in Business Administration or Law

• Management consulting experience

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

Educate and Evangelize:

• Craft a “data activation pitch deck” that showcases, using industry benchmark as well as internal case studies, the value and capabilities of utilizing data to drive elevated customer experience and enhanced business value

• Quantify the “value of data” based on a variety of vectors including revenue generation, monetization/resale, customer lifetime value (CLTV), and cost efficiency/reduction

• Educate the organization on what data is available for activation, where to find it, and how to gain access

• Work with the data governance team to stand up an enterprise data catalogue to enable self-service

• Leverage opportunities to present at staff meetings and townhalls to build awareness around the incremental value associated with new data-driven activations

• Plan and execute an in-person “Data Activation Day” event to evangelize and crowd source new ideas across the organization

Identify and Prioritize:

• Collaborate with discipline, continent, and channel owners to brainstorm opportunities (e.g., use cases, capabilities) to better leverage customer data to drive personalization at scale and to deliver incremental business value

• Prioritize data activation opportunities based on a combination of strategic alignment, value delivery, and feasibility/level of effort

• Develop an enterprise data activation roadmap

Deliver and Measure:

• Work with cross-functional technology, data, and platform teams to enable efficient data delivery to enable omni-channel data activations

• Collaborate with data engineering and analytics teams to ensure data quality, accuracy, and accessibility for activation purposes

• Partner with Insights and Analytics team to measure activation results to ensure value delivery

Team Leadership and Collaboration:

• Foster a collaborative and innovative culture within the team, promoting knowledge sharing and cross-functional collaboration

• Lead and develop a high-performing team of audience strategists and activation specialists.
